The fully-staged production of High School Musical really isn't bad. I feared the worst when I saw it and only went because a friend wanted to go, but I liked it better than the made-for-cable movie. I've seen MUCH worse.
I really can't stand The Producers and all the hype that surrounds it.
Really,Matt?
I actually auditioned for it at North Shore, not because I like the show but because NSMT had a non-eq open call at all.
Phantom and Seussical and Xanadu!
I've never heard someone hate Xanadu. Can you explain why?
glory day! (i'm sure more people would say this if they had the chance to see it LOL!)
the lion king/mermaid/tarzan
naked boys singing
good vibrations
secretly i want these on the list above, but there's a place in my heart that once really enjoyed them. they're all just so over played and hyped up that i can't stand the idea that these are the only musicals that exist to some audiences. (sondheim... can u hear me!?)

High School Musical doesn't count. It's just a cute Disney thing for kids, not a real quality musical.

I've got to add Follies, SITPWG and Company

Without a doubt Will Rogers Follies followed closely by Mamma Mia.
I agree, Little Fall of Rain.

Worse quality has been produced on Broadway. High School Musical does indeed count. And since when do family musicals not count?
A musical is a musical. Period. once you start discriminating a musical based on its target demographic, you discriminate all musicals (and all theatre, for that matter). And you completely discredit every member of its creative team from its performers, to the director, choreographer, writers and design team.
oohshizz146 - Really. I had no desire to see High School Musical AT ALL, but I was quite surprised at how much quality went into the production. The staging was seamless, the story was the same, but it is threadbare (saw it in Grease and American Pie), but it was invigorated in the fresh energy and vitality brought by the cast. And I have to say the choreography was exciting to watch. I had a great time. I couldn't say the same for other musicals of its genre, such as Footloose, which had so much potential, but was misdirected at every turn. I'm curious to see how Dirty Dancing comes across.
Honestly, if I were to judge High School Musical strictly based on the movie, not taking into account its success, I would rate it extremely low. But I could not honestly put the stage production anywhere near the bottom of the list. It was very entertaining.
Thats interesting to hear. I wish I saw it at North Shore...especially since Andrew K-B was in it!!!
Cats
Pirate Queen
anyone ever hear the cast recording of Bingo? I didn't see it, but the music is horrible!
VERY hard to pick. I have to go with a three-way tie between Phantom of the Opera, Cats, and Wicked.

Wow...I'm surprised that so few people have voted for BKLYN. I personally find it hilarious that on the live recording, it may as well have been in a studio, because you never once hear the eight people in the audience clapping.

From what I heard I was not impressed with Brooklyn also.

The Knife, with Mandy Patinkin proving that there is not a pretty girl inside of every man. Produced at the Public in the late 80's, and it had to be seen to be believed.
That's quite a roster of hated hits being compiled! It all goes to show that no matter what one's taste, there's always someone else with the opposite! You know that old cliche, one persons trash is another persons art....or something like that!
The Fantastiks VII
Is that a dutch show that I am unaware of?
Maybe those people would like The Fantasticks better.
