I spent a grand weekend on the Cape with close friends. We could't bring any Broadway show tunes to listen to. Well I brought the new Coldplay "Viva Lavida". And found it to be perfect summertime music. Just wondering what other cd people would bring? joe
Does MAMMA MIA movie soundtrack counts? I found that "Lay All Your Love On Me" would be a perfect music on the beach while sunbathing & people watching, but you have to use your imagination for the song to work while listening on your iPOd!
Oh, can't go wrong with Mother...her new CD..HARD CANDY!

We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things. - Jason Mraz
It's just a great "chill-out" CD.
Sylvia Tosun - Jump In (An older CD but just getting to it)
Erykah Badu - BADU (Import)
Joe I agree, the new Coldplay album is fantastic. I've also been listening to My Morning Jacket's "Evil Urges".
Sheryl Crow...
Ibiza/Summer Chillout Classics Boxset (42 Chilled Balearic Grooves) - Right before heading to the beach two weekends ago, I found this compilation on iTunes and have fallen in love!
Fortunately it's not a problem for me. My roommate and pseudo-roommate both adore showtunes, and when I'm with my family (like when we go to the beach) I'm lucky that my family loves them too. So there's not really a time when I'm "not allowed" or "not able" to listen to showtunes.
But strictly speaking, in heavy rotation in my playlist is, while not "new", Alice Ripley's solo album "Everything's Fine" which is definitely not Broadway. So I guess that's my answer. :) That and her albums with her band Ripley. Hee!

Sara Bareilles just re-released her original album that has been out of print, called Careful Confessions. It has been playing non-stop. She is just brilliant.
I'll second Jason Mraz's "We Sing, We Dance, We steal things"
and my new favorite that I just got is The Black Kids' "Partie Traumatic"
Probably Sugarland's new album "Love on the Inside"...but I can't imagine a situation where I wouldn't be able to listen to OBCR's lol
It's only one summer weekend a year, that I can sacrifice. And remember you can bring your own i-pod. Just can't be played in the car, cottage and beach. One small motion, not to cause a commotion. joe

I don't have one. I have a few. . .
John Mayer's "Where The Light Is" and "The Village Sessions".
Some concert band stuff from Frank Ticheli, Eric Whitacre, and Gershwin. I really have to expand in this genre of composers.
Drum and Bugle Corps recordings too. Anyone heard of such an activity? You should check it out sometime. To me, it's the hidden gem of performing arts.
Also, anything by David Sedaris, although not music, it's Fantastic.

njohn, I have been to D and B shows before. And also enjoy watching them on PBS. I must say, they make that field a big stage. And some brillant performances by corps. Being from MA, very familar with the 27th Lancers.
Adding Machine .
Jason mraz
Disturbed
Angela's Ashes
Jason Mraz's music (and voice) is absolute HEAVEN.
love it so much...
The last album I bought is Kathy Griffin: For Your Consideration. Pretty funny stuff. Album before that, Esperanza Spalding, who is soooo good.
I've been listening to a lot of Amy Winehouse. I found these unreleased tracks online and they are fantastic. She sings about weed a lot, but how she sings it blows me away.
I've also been listening to Jason Mraz (although I haven't bought the album yet), and Corinne Bailey Rae.
I have a bunch of mix CDs that I usually listen to. I have so many different styles of music ranging from oldies to classical.

Adele, 19. My favorite by far.
She & Him, Volume One
Sara Bareilles, Little Voice
still enjoying the Once Soundtrack from last winter.
And I just got the anthology of Sondre Lerche, so I've been enjoying that as well. Looking forward to Imogen Heap's next album, too, with clips and snips on her vlog.

A weekend without showtunes? I would go insane and kill my entire family? Wait, isn't that what happened in The Shinning?
With that being said, I have been recently re-enjoying Abba Gold and More Abba Gold this summer.
Thanks guys for your thoughts. It's seems Jason Mraz is my next cd. joe
