I love Across the Universe. Possibly because of its pointlessness. Just too much good music and attractive men not to like it.
And Julie Andrews couldn't be Muzzie if they adapted the new musical, because Muzzie is African American in the musical. And I really just hate Millie, so this in general would make me sad.

"Say what? Liza and Barbra are waaaaaay too old for the part."
Very true. I guess im just dreaming! I wonder if Cate Blanchett can sing?
"
Say what? Liza and Barbra are waaaaaay too old for the part. They're in their 60s and Rose was about 30 (at the start of the play) and then mid to late 30s when the events take place. The real Rose was born in 1890 and had Louise in 1911 (aged 21) and June two years later (aged 23). Through much of the show Louise is 15, which would make Rose 36."
Though I probably wouldn't disagree both are too* old for the part, would you really claim it is necessary for Rose to be or look in his mid 30s?
[Very late edit]
I actually wish they'd stop making movie musicals. There hasn't been a single one I've been completely satisfied with. My Fair Lady and the Bette Midler Gypsy came very close, and I don't mind watching them in spite of their few flaws, but that's two out of maybe hundreds of movie musicals that are simply unwatchable. I'd rather they spend the money on other things like properly preserving the stage productions the terrible movies are based on.
There ARE movie musicals I like (like I love Chicago and Sweeney Todd), but I have to agree that preserving the productions they're based on would be better. But, doing such wouldn't reign in big movie money, while a movie certainly can.
The thing I hate most about Bette Midler Gypsy is Bette Midler :P.
I guess you don't like Sweeney Todd then, but I think it's a great example of why they should continue making movie-musicals.

if they remade rent, and were more loyal to the actual show, would it be rated R? just a thought. i love the movie version, but they definitely could have done a better job. i liked the reference to the high school version, that is very true.
i'd love to see a good gypsy. i don't know if another version of funny girl could live up to streisand, but it would be very interesting to see amy adams attempt it, i love her, she's brilliant.
you know what, i just love musical movies so much i'll take as many as they'll give us
Is the remake of My Fair Lady still in the works with a screenplay by Emma Thompson? I love My Fair Lady and think it's nearly perfect already, but I'd be kinda curious about Emma Thompson's screenplay and what the film as a whole would be like coming out now. I'm not thrilled about Kiera Knightley(sp?) as Eliza though.
The movie musical that needs to be remade is Mame.
As for My Fair Lady, the last thing it needs is a rewrite by Emma Thompson or anyone else.
maybe how to succeed in business without really trying with matthew broderick.
