I am heading to the city in a couple weekends and would appreciate suggestions on what to see. Looking to see shows from this season but haven’t heard rave reviews about anything... so hoping for someone to point me in the right direction. Thanks!

The best shows that have opened this season so far have been The Ferryman, The Waverly Gallery, and Torch Song. Nothing else has been that notable (Mockingbird and The Cher Show are still in previews).

If you are interested in Off-Broadway you might want to look into the Other Josh Cohen. It got strong reviews and a very enthusiastic response by the audience the night I saw it.

I saw The Prom tonight and I can't stop smiling! There are a lot of wonderful but heavy plays right now, and I would totally recommend The Prom as something lighthearted and high energy to break that up. (Though it's more moving than I expected it to be.)

As far as musicals, I’m the most excited about Fiddler on the Roof, which will be starting its off-Broadway run in January but is still playing at the Museum of Jewish Heritage through December 30, I believe.
As far as new Broadway musicals go, nothing really excites me until Tootsie opens next year, but I’m warming up to the idea of The Cher Show. I can’t get excited about The Prom, yet. And I’d only see King Kong if I got a discounted ticket to see the puppet.
But man, I wish I was in NYC right now. So many plays I want to see (even though some have received mixed reviews):
- [ ] Torch Song (P) - closes 2/24/19
- [ ] The Ferryman (P)
- [ ] The Lifespan of a Fact (P) - closes 1/13/19
- [ ] The Waverly Gallery (P) - closes 1/27/19
- [ ] American Son (P) - closes 1/27/19
- [ ] Network (P) - closes March 17, 2019
- [ ] To Kill a Mockingbird (P)

I'd see as many shows as you can and get as much variety as you can. Check out something more artsy like Ferryman and something more of a big spectacle like King Kong or Beetlejuice and something that will make you laugh like Tootsie. If you're of a younger generation, Be More Chill is a can't miss.

Beetlejuice, Tootsie, and Be More Chill won't be options if OP is coming in a couple of weeks...

I'm going to piggyback on this. I'm coming to NYC for a weekend next month. We already have tickets to see Network for Sat evening.
For Friday night, I was thinking I'd probably see Ferryman, but I was also thinking of snagging a Girl From North Country on Stubhub. I'm leaning Ferryman with these rumors of a Kerr transfer. For Sunday, I was thinking Lifespan of a Fact evening show prior to a 10pm dinner. I think it'd be too much to see a 3pm play prior to this, but perhaps I can convince my significant other to indulge me.
For Saturday matinee I am struggling between Waverly Gallery or Torch Song. Torch Song's plot seems more interesting to me, but the reviews for Waverly are difficult to ignore. I could kick out Lifespan out of Sunday, I suppose. Anybody have a strong thought on this? Maybe I can't go wrong either way?
Thanks!
