I thought I had heard something a while ago but can’t find it or remember if that was even true lol.
From what I've heard, a commercial producer who has rented Studio 54 before has it again for part of this season.
Every summer I hope Roundabout changes their mind about bringing in Here Lies Love…with American Utopia & David Byrne being a hit, and a need for more AAPI-centered art representing in mainstream media, I think it could be a huge hit.
Curious what commercial production is renting it out. Shame it can’t be “Into the Woods”.
This thread is about a year old, before “Pictures From Home”. As for this year, haven’t heard anything.
I know, but I didn’t want to get in trouble for starting a new thread like I did yesterday.
I feel like the revival of Evita would be good here. The ART and Roundabout worked together last season on 1776.
If not Roundabout's supposed PIRATES revival, gonna take a wild guess that their frequent renter Jeffery Richards puts a play in it again.
It'll be interesting to see what the next year will look like following Todd Haimes' passing and how it impacts their shows (frequency, quality, and type of show) and their rentals. I can't even begin to suggest who might take over as permanent AD since running a Broadway nonprofit is such a unique gig.
I saw Pictures from Home a few weeks ago and Studio 54 is NOT in good shape. I'd go as far as to say it might be my least favorite broadway theatre. Hopefully they do some work on the theatre itself before bringing in something.

well that would be a big cost for Roundabout, and considering all else that's going on at roundabout right now –– and there's no shortage of people who want to rent 54 –– that doesn't seem like a high priority. But of course the ideal renovation would gut the auditorium (in partic the mezz), add an orchestra pit, fix sightlines on the sides, etc.
I was working near Studio 54 during the pandemic and saw a lot of work going on in there in Summer 2021 I want to say? Couldn't really tell what was going on inside, so I was excited at the thought of it opening up all nice and fresh. But then my first show in there post=-reopening, I was like...huh?
