As a lover of jukebox musicals, I need to know! There are so many shows opening this spring, what do you think would be the most fun to go see?
I have to think & Juliet fits that bill. Crazy plot, all music by a Swedish sensation (Max Martin).

I do agree that & Juliet is the best all round, with a plot that's just fun and songs that work well in the context. I also enjoyed MJ a lot and think it's perhaps the best bio jukebox since Jersey Boys, though the ending fell apart for me (and I know many other people had issues with it).

I'm sorry, but & Juliet is just not good. Not even in a bubble gum sense. For a jukebox musical not centered around a specific artist to feature that many Katy Perry/Britney/Backstreet Boys songs is just grating.
The next one to be as big as Mamma Mia is inevitable but hard to pinpoint. ABBA wasn’t as universally loved when Mamma Mia opened as they are today; there was an element of guilty pleasure kitsch to them that has since been reassessed. But the songs were good and the “you’re at a party” atmosphere of the show helped sell it.
The next jukebox sensation at that level will one to have either an even more beloved artist, an even more joyfully immersive “gotta be there” atmosphere, or both. My money is on the long-gestating Beatles musical, whatever it turns out to be. (Across the Universe has allegedly been in and out of workshops for almost twenty years.)
Moulin Rouge is right there.

These responses were all so helpful, thank you! What about The Heart of Rock and Roll? I think tonight was their invited dress so if anyone was there let me know what you thought... I have tickets to the first preview tomorrow night and I'm so excited! Who doesn't love Huey Lewis' music?!

Once Upon A Once More Time had so much potential to be the next Mamma Mia. Maybe the eventual movie adaptation would help?

You're entitled to that viewpoint. I will say having seen both, I much prefer &Juliet over our other jukebox musical-I think it could be categorized as such- Moulin Rouge!. Yes I realize you did not mention MR. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion- thats what's so awesome about theater

There isn’t going to be a movie adaptation lol. Just because somebody bought the rights thinking it would be a hit, doesn’t mean it’s going to happen. And I had a blast at the show, but come on, let’s be realistic.

Wasn't there also a rumor floating around a few years ago that they were going to do a movie of Come From Away? We have the proshot, we have the tour, we have a UK tour- know when to stop. Agreed-people have to be realistic
Different case, they did the pro-shoot instead of the film, but yes.
