Hi all -
Trying out for a professional theatre's production of Hair. They're looking for pop/rock voices. They did ask for a musical theatre piece in the style of the show.
I'm a soprano with a strong belt/mix.
Having a tough time with this one - suggestions?

I'm pretty surprised they asked specifically for a *musical theatre piece*. Frankly, there are only a handful of rock musicals with decent scores. I doubt they, for one, really want to hear music from DUDE or VIA GALACTCA...
I guess you can sing from RENT or JC SUPERSTAR - along with everybody else auditioning.
How about singing someting from LENNON or SMOKEY JOES CAFE. Those are actually pop songs that have been on Broadway!

well if she needs the sheet music, it might be hard to sing from spring awakening.
Why wouldn't something like : "Name of the game" or "I have a dream" work from mamma mia? If chrissy were to be in mamma mia instead sophie.. I think she'd sing those lol.. they'd also be decent for the other roles as well. I wouldn't really suggest tick tick boom.. i think that is too current.

Evita, Joseph..., LENNON (i.e. a Beatles song), Mamma Mia, All Shook Up (i.e. an Elvis song), Grease
Or you could take a classic and rock it out.

Thanks everyone. Some great ideas! Checking them out....
I came up wih these too:
Where Am I Going from Charity - and since I can belt pretty high Once Upon a Time or Streetsinger from Brooklyn. Also I was considering What Kind of Fool from Saturday Night Fever....dunno still. I'll see what else you guys think as I practice this week.
