The national tour finished up today and there hasn't been any news of a non-equity tour, which I hope does not happen. What's next for this show in the US and on the North American continent? Should we expect it to pop up in regional theatres soon?
I've been secretly hoping The Chicago Shakespeare Theatre gets a hold of the rights so I can see a production of the show in its original layout.

hopefully not much. Matilda is wonderfully overrated.

The show did not resonate with me. But I wouldn't wish bad things about it either. Ultimately, every show finds its audience. The tour only lasted for 6 months and most of the engagements were for 1 week only with no extended runs. To me, that is telling.

The tour began in summer of 2015. That's not six months....

This is the tour I was referring to. Unless there is one before this that I am not aware of:

That's the same tour which began in 2015. There was just the Toronto sit down in between, but it included the same set and many of the same actors. https://www.ibdb.com/tour-production/matilda-the-musical--500688/#tourstops

Probably regional productions. Although with so many children involved I'm not sure if it will be all that much!

Children's Theatres are definitely going to be doing it as soon as they release the rights

I was never a fan of this show. And I thought the tour was mediocre at best. I think it will have some regional productions.. but I bet it will mostly disappear.

One of my favorite shows. If it's still running in London next time I go, I'll definitely see it again. I love everything about it.

It seems to be one of those "love it or hate it" shows - I'm in the former category. I think it's brilliant.
Anyway, having a lot of kids required is a hurdle, but it sure hasn't stopped Annie. It will have a decent regional life and I imagine the rights we be out soon.
