What's next for Young Frankenstein?

I would like to see the source of whoever says that it has bad tickets sales. I went to Young Frankenstein on Sunday and it was packed. I highly doubt that anyone would know whether it's doing good or not because they haven't posted their numbers.
Anyways, I have no source for this but I hope it tours so more people can see it. YF was a great show. Although it started off a little bumpy, after Transylvania Mania I could tell that it was going to get much better. Sadly, not all of the songs were as good as I had hoped but there were several gems.

Shows generally are packed at weekends, but if they're not selling during the week, then it's not going to hold forever.
Beshrew whoever decided to withhold the grosses on this one!

They're not doing as bad as some would hope. It's funny, the same people who scream at us for guessing when shows will close, claiming we're mean to actors, could care less about this show, for some reason.
I still think it is a great Musical Comedy. And since nobody can see the box office numbers, a lot of people assume it is doing badly, which isn't the case.

Posted: 6/17/08 at 12:01pmAgreed. I happen to KNOW that it's not doing as poorly as everyone on here suggests. In fact it's doing quite well. Just because it's on TKTS and TDF doesn't mean anything. It's an ENORMOUS theater.

Posted: 6/17/08 at 12:27pmThe Variety estimates are accurate, and with a running cost of about $700,000, it's not had a losing week yet. The Hilton is huge, so even at half houses it can break even. When you compare it to shows like Cry-Baby, Passing Strange, Catered Affair, and Xanadu, which have rarely, if ever, had profitable weeks, it's way ahead in the grosses department.

Posted: 6/17/08 at 12:29pmI'm guessing it will run through the holidays, and likely close Jan/Feb 2009. Although few know for sure, I don't think it's doing that badly with the tourists, but not quite well enough for a longer run.

I really enjoy this show (saw it three times so far) and the audience was packed each time (mid-week). I thought the grosses for YF were not posted so I wonder how that person knew the box-office take?
I am concerned, tho'--that once this present cast leaves, that the show may not do as well. Most of the reason I like it is BECAUSE of the cast. Christopher F., MM, Roger Bart, Andrea Martin, etc. are all AMAZING! (IMO) They are each unique and special to their parts. Time will tell.

Posted: 6/17/08 at 2:11pmpersonally, I like Young Frankenstein, but I think that after the original cast leaves the show will have a major downfall. I think that this time next year the show will be ready to close. I do think it'll go on tour though.

Posted: 6/18/08 at 4:13amWell here's hoping it is still on in May next year and it might help persuade me to make a return visit to NY.

You can't look at how full a theatre is as to how much money they are making. It depends on how much someone pays for a ticket. For example, the show has been on TKTS a fair amount recently. There can be a whole area of seats in the orchestra that went on sale at TKTS and is full of people who got them there. The producers wouldn't be making as much money off of those seats as they would off the orchestra seats that are being sold at full price.
Brooks did a bad job with producing this show. He had such a big ego trip that he thought that people would pay 450 for a ticket for this show. At first that price wasn't the premium price that was just general full price. He then realized that no one was buying those tickets because it is 450 for a theatre ticket so he lowered them down to an average price scale.
The show is nothing but one bad joke after another with a forgettable score and lyrics. I got a ticket via lotto and even then wish I had seen something else. I don't see it lasting that long. It is having the same problem that every other show that has played the hilton has had. And that is being profitable in that huge theatre. The only show that ever came close was Ragtime.
