My recommendation is [Title Of Show] - it is the best Off Broadway show playing...

I've heard really good things about the Irish Rep's 3-character production (in the vein of 39 Steps) of AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS.
MARRIAGE OF BETTE and BOO I enjoyed very much.
FANTASTICKS is always quite enjoyable.
BUFFALO GAL at 59 E 59 (the new AR Gurney play starring Susan Sullivan) has also just started. Haven't heard much, but Gurney and Sullivan are worth it.
I really enjoyed THE MARRIAGE OF BETTE AND BOO. Best thing I have seen the Roundabout do in a while.
[Title Of Show]
uh...I just reviewed that..lol! and that's NOT off-broadway as far as I am concerned, its playing at LYCEUM THEATER!

I'll third Bette & Boo.
You may never again see bacon portrayed so well on stage. And Julie Hagerty is divinity.

Yeah, Thanks guys! I might see Marriage of Bette & Boo at Rundabout plus its closing on Sept! I have NOT seen THE FANTASTIC!~that's a possibility too~and this is the 2nd Revival of the show?

I thought it was the first revival and the original just ran for a really long time?

Fishy billing.
The original run closed in 2002. A revival opened in 2006 and closed in Feb 2008 (ish). It reopened with a new set of producers a month or so ago.
I think this counts as the 2nd revival, but they still call it the 1st.
That answered my question of if The Fantasticks got new producers between the revival opening and after the revivals haitus.
If I recall correctly. They said that the first revival just went on haitus to make room for Soccer Mom. But, keep in mind one thing. That they originally said that it was closing because they didn't know at the time if The Fantasticks was going to come back after Soccer Mom was done at The Orbach Theatre.
I've heard good thing about Around the World in 80 days at the Irish Rep.
And I believe the TOS response was sarcastic!

Oh, Jay! And everyone! Dont' forget AIN'T SUPPOSED TO DIE A NATURAL DEATH being put on for FREE FREE FREE in NYC parks. A dark, angry musical about life in the inner city, it got rave reviews when it played Classical Theater of Harlem a couple of years ago, with none other than our own Margo Channing joining in the effusive praise. I personally can't wait to see it!!

AIN'T SUPPOSED TO DIE gets a positive review in the NYT
Aww! Thanks borstalboy! I will try to catch it this summer:

[tos]sers BE WARNED: THIS POSTING CONTAINS VITRIOLIC, VENOMOUS, AND PROUD VAMPIRE SENTIMENTS.
READ ON AT YOUR DISCRETION.
Too bad ADDING MACHINE isn't around anymore. That show was very untraditional, but one of the most phenomenal theatrical experiences in NYC in a long time.
So, that leaves you with: ALTAR BOYZ and/or I LOVE YOU, YOU'RE PERFECT, NOW CHANGE (Closing after several years in New York, so see it soon! It’s great!).
And yup, once again we prove that it is only due to the naïveté and inexperience of [tos]sers that we are stuck with all this unfounded and unnecessary hyperbole about a very mediocre show.
The previous post about [tos] being a great off-Broadway show is completely on track. Like its REAL peers -- FORBIDDEN BROADWAY, ALTAR BOYZ, I LOVE YOU YOU'RE PERFECT NOW CHANGE, THE FANTASTICKS, etc. -- [tos] deserves an extended run in an Off-Broadway house. Nothing more. On Broadway, it's offensive, because it defeats the purpose of the “Great” White Way. I seriously wanted to stick a stake into my own heart and fill my own mouth with garlic when I heard Hunter telling Lin-Miranda that IN THE HEIGHTS was [tos]'s "big brother." Ha! How can he even BEGIN to compare a Tony-winning, 2 1/2 hour, multi-orchestrated, superbly designed and choreographed show with a cast of over 30 here-to-for-unrepresented-on-Broadway Latino and Black professional actors to [tos]?!?!?
The original minimalist, small-cast musical in New York was THE FANTASTICKS. It played for well over ten years downtown, sold-out almost every night. It's beautiful. (Although I can't speak for this latest revival, because I haven't seen it.)
http://www.thefantasticks.com/
But any and all [tos]sers must see this show, at least once, regardless of the quality of the revival, because it might learn you something --
That shows with little design, no orchestration, one keyboard, and 4 to 6 cast members should be Off-Broadway.
Not at the Lyceum.

Um...no one was talking about Title of Show...why don't you go to one of those threads and discuss it. There's only a million of them.

It's there, babe. 2nd post. Scroll up. Read. See it?
So sorry you missed it.
And please don't belittle a discussion of [tos] under an "Off-Broadway" thread. Because that's what the show is: Off-Broadway. Regardless of its current location.
Oh Christ, whatever.
Go see AIN'T SUPPOSED TO DIE A NATURAL DEATH!!!!

Cool. I will. I love off-beat shows downtown.
Thanks for posting!
I have only seen Fuerzabruta. Had a blast.
I agree that you should see I Love You, You're Perfect...Now Change! if you haven't already. It is such a great, funny, intimate piece and I really enjoyed it. Plus, it's closing soon! See it while you can! :)
