Posted: 8/25/04 at 5:46pmI would suggest Hairspray, I'm sure a 13 year old can handle that. Also can't go wrong with any of the Disney shows, Lion King or BATB, although I'm not trying to say you need to stay within that "age group" since those shows are appealing to many adults as well! Posted: 8/25/04 at 5:47pmThis one's tough - If Little Shop had not just closed, that would be good, It also has a lot to do with a maturity level. I was around your age when I saw my first Broadway shows, and they were Annie, (my parents knew about this one) but it took three trys at the TKTS window to get tickets to that, so I also saw Sweeney Todd and Evita.

Posted: 8/25/04 at 5:52pmWe had a lot of younger kids (maybe 13....maybe not)in the audience for when I was in Ragtime...and alot of them loved it. Granted, it was a WAY off-broadway production, but...it was still very good.

I agree with Crazy4MattMorrison52, all of those shows were great! Hairspray was just okay now that Harvey is gone, but BARE is a fantastic show...but you have to be a really big fan of the arts to apprechiate that show.
I reccomend looking in this order:
1) Avenue Q (very vulgar)
2) Wicked
3) Mamma Mia!

If your going in December there is Brooklyn. in Febuary there is Little Women. Rent is good for teenagers but it is raunchy.
Hairspray is excellent as well as Mamma Mia. But if your not in the city that often, go see Hairspay its a garentee of a good time.

Posted: 8/25/04 at 5:58pmIf you're going in December, you should try for preview tickets for Little Women. That was my favorite movie when I was 13, and is a definite family show. I'd go with that, Hairspray, 42nd Street or Disney shows.

Posted: 8/25/04 at 6:01pmHmmm...I don't think I'm a normal 13 year old, so I won't give you suggestions.

Posted: 8/25/04 at 6:14pmForbidden Broadway is usually a winner. Mamma Mia is fun, and Ave. Q is the most fun you can have in a theater.

Mominator- I wouldn't necessarily want a 13 year old to see Forbidden Broadway, well, this one. It's not too bad in vulgar terms, but I don't see a 13 year old really understanding and enjoying it.
(Well, any person who doesn't get to the theater much, doesn't know the scoop on the shows, or doesn't follow Broadway gossip wouldn't enjoy it.)

I would have to say:
Wicked
Hairspray
Lion King
Beauty & The Best
Sorry I love AVE Q but I would not take a 13 yr old to it...

Avenue Q for a 13 year old? Are you serious?
I would recommend Hairspray, 42nd Street, Fiddler, or any of the Disney shows.
When I was at Fiddler, my 18 year old sister and I sat in front of a couple with two kids- probably 8 and 12 or so. One of them asked if next time, they could see the puppet show with the Muppets. Yes, he was referring to Ave q. Apparently the word did not get out to these tourists.

Posted: 8/25/04 at 7:34pmI've been obsessed with Broadway shows since I was about 8, including some shows that a few people would consider vulgar for someone my age. Just determine what you are comfortable seeing. If you don't think you can handle Avenue Q or Forbidden Broadway, Hairspray and Wicked are excellent choices.
#23re: What shows are good for a 13 year old?
Posted: 8/25/04 at 7:38pmI'm 13, and I've seen most shows on Broadway. It's not age what determines if you can handle it- it's maturity. If you think you're mature enough to handle the issues in Avenue Q, go see it. If you're not ready for a show like that, then go see something that's family-ish. Hairspray's a good show. You might want to see that.
#24re: What shows are good for a 13 year old?
Posted: 8/25/04 at 7:41pmI'm 13, so I would say Hairspray, Rent, Avenue Q, Little Women, Forbidden Broadway, Bare or Brooklyn. I'm seeing Avenue Q, but if you don't think you want to see puppets in a musical, then don't see it. And I personally HATE Disney, especially The Lion King. But I'm not really normal for my age.
