I feel like Sunday would be better off as a Roundabout production.
GREASE cannot replace THE WEDDING SINGER. It looks as it TWS will close this winter. GREASE wouldn't open for almost a year. Word is still out on whether CURTAINS will come to Broadway of not. If it does, they will get the Martin Beck. If not, who knows - but I doubt they're going to hold it until GREASE, which is scheduled for 2008, right?

My guess: Expect Disney to close TARZAN at a loss and put MERMAID into the Rodgers.
Doesn't Tarzan sell out every performance?

Posted: 10/23/06 at 1:46pmI had no idea. I saw it a couple of weeks ago and it was sold out even with all the leads out of the show.

Posted: 10/23/06 at 2:07pmIs the Lyceum big enough for Grease? If so, that settles something. Also, I vote the Majestic for The Little Mermaid. Phantom could move to the Imperial or Al Hirschfeld and the Majestic could have some fresh blood.

Guys. This GREASE revival is over a year away.
What is the point about speculating where it will play when more than half of what is playing now could be gone by the time GREASE! comes? It's not opening this season.
And there is no logical reason in the world for PHANTOM to move. What, exactly, would that solve?

I forgot about Curtains - I read in Variety that it was going to the Al Hirchsfeld
Grease is opening Summer 2007 is it not? If not Al Hirchsfeld then it could replace Les Mis at The Broadhurst (again, if indeed this is a "limited season") If not could replace Tarzan

Posted: 10/23/06 at 3:45pmJust to let everyone know.... I talked to the lady at the box office of Les Miz and she told me that ticket blocks for les miz have already been opened all the way through the end of summer. She said tickets sales have been soooo strong that she expected them to run even further due to the fact that ticket sales are very strong during the summer. The show is already almost completely sold out to the end of January. If you want tickets get them now!!! Thats just my suggestion. I bought tickets a month ago and I'll be seeing it on Dec 7th

Posted: 10/23/06 at 3:45pmI posted a thread on this a while back but it got deleted. The Wedding Singer is set to close on January 7th (I think, it was around that date) and Curtains is going to move into the Hirchsfeld.

Posted: 10/23/06 at 9:30pmTimes They Are A Changin' isn't doing bad business. It's been in the upper 80s since it started previews. Movin' Out played for 3 years at those numbers and was kept under the radar for a while. I wouldn't count on that show just closing up in May.

Shows close all the time while they're on top. Why not close strong instead of waiting for the show to become a joke?
Music Box is too small.

It could help it: RENT
Or hurt it: The Producers
Or do nothing: Phantom.
There's no telling what will happen. I think Hairspray has run its course. It's probably begining to fade.

hmmm.. Hairspray doesn't seem to be going anywhere.. it is NOT playing at loss and consistently turns a profit.. It has only suffered drops when most other shows have. Ie, back to school week.
Excpect Beauty to vanish and Mermaid to appear.. just a hunch of course....

None of these shows are doing poorly.
Right at this moment, the only musical on the bubble is Wedding Singer.
Grease doesn't open until June, 2007. Mermaid isn't even planned for Broadway yet. Times They Are.... is doing solid business. Evita isn't set, just speculation. Curtain's is rumored to be opening on March 22 at the Hirschfeld. Tarzan isn't closing any time soon, either.

Posted: 10/23/06 at 10:49pmBeing that auditions are at the palace for Grease I feel as though that may be its venue...also TLM is opening in 2008 and The Wiz hasn't been announced for BWAY yet but Dodger Theatricals has been after a revival for quite some time at least since 2004.

Posted: 10/23/06 at 10:58pmThe Palace is far too caverenous for Grease. The call is being held there for a simple reason.. the quaint schtick of holding the auditions for a Broadway show in a BRoadway theatre.. a FLAGSHIP Broadway theatre no less, and one that is large enough to hold a LARGE turnout...
