I'm coming to New York in May and want to a new show- and something funny! I keep seeing things about something rotten but I don't know anything about it? Would that be a good one to go see?
I think Something Rotten is a good choice! It's sure to be entertaining. It's hard to know since it's so new but the cast is fantastic and from the clips I've seen, I'm really looking forward to it! Finding Neverland also looks good.
Nobody really knew much about Book of Mormon before they started, and look how that turned out!
Seriously - if you're looking for something new, entertaining and funny... go for Something Rotten. I am betting this will be the surprise HIT of the season.

I've been wondering about Something Rotten as well. Especially since they have been offering some fantastic discounts for the Spring. So far I've lined up American In Paris, The King & I, Beautiful, and The Curious Incident of the Dog In The Nightime. I'd really like to add a comedy to the mix.
FUN HOME!!! It's totally entertaining with a beautiful score and is surprisingly pretty funny, though I agree I think Something rotten could potentially end up being a hit just really they need to work around that name.
I would recommend considering Gigi. It's such a beautiful story and score, and this production looks pretty fantastic to me.
I think SR!'s title is perfect - and is kind of the point.
The "butt" of the joke, if you will.
This is like the twelfth thread on what to see this spring...
Honeymoon in Vegas could probably use your money?
Jeffrey Karasarides, haha! But seriously HinV isn't that funny actually kind of racist IMO and it's not one of JRB's best scores so...
Again I think Fun Home or SR.

Ok I don't know why that got posted 4 times so ignore the other 3!
RACIST? RACIST?
To the op: must it be a musical? If not, consider Hand to God.
If you really want a musical, then I think Something Rotten might be a great choice for a comedy.
I would not recommend Fun Home as a comedy per se (although it is the show I am most excited for.)
I kind of have the same thing going re: what to see... I'm going in May and (hopefully) back again in June... I can only see 3-4 in May and a couple in June. Only two of these haven't opened either pre-Broadway or on: Something Rotten and An Act of God... would love some feedback, as well...
DEFINITE:
Fun Home (for May)
MORE THAN LIKELY:
On the 20th Century (for May)
OTHERS I'M INTERESTED IN:
The King & I
The Visit
Something Rotten
Gigi
An Act of God (friend wants to see this, so maybe June)
Hamilton (friend wants to see this, so maybe June)

I'll be the first one to recommend Gigi, but if you're looking for a new comedy, then at the moment Something Rotten seems like it fits your criteria best.

I'm betting on Something Rotten! I think it's going to be great and totally original. I love the title, the cast and the creative team. Recipe for success if you ask me. I love the bits of songs I've heard as well. Looks really fun!
If you're open to a non musical, I would check out Living on Love as the sure bet comedy. But for musical comedies, Something Rotten is likely to be a good one.
OP is a glaring Something Rotten shill (see other posts), as is Jazzyhands and Goldfish3. Nice try, kids.
This entire thread is nothing more than an advertisement.

If this thread was an advertisement, then I'd say it worked.. seeing as it got people talking about the show.
My intention was only really to get some feedback about a show I kept seeing advertisements for and was curious about.
Either way, the marketing must be working. So unless any other show's marketing teams want to sway me another way- I'm buying tickets for SR.
So I too am going to be in NYC in the spring (early april) and was wondering this:
If i definitely want to see On The Town, would you recommend seeing An American In Paris and/or On The 20th Century as well? Or are those three shows too similar to see in the same trip? They all sound interesting but I want some variety in the shows I see.

I saw On the Town lots of ballet but no story really and I am reading in a thread here that An American in Paris is lots of dancing but no story. I also saw On the Twentieth Century and I thought the show was amazing...tap dancing porters, dancing , singing and a story too! Also star studded with Kristin Chenoweth, Peter Gallagher (Altho I saw the Peter understudy when I went but he was no slouch either), Andy Karl and others. So I would say skip the first two and go see On the Twentieth Century. Just my opinion. PS: I left On the Town at intermission because I was just too bored! But I am in the minority the other people watching On the Town seemed to really enjoy the show!
