When singing in a cabaret/night club type of setting, will the audience usually prefer a slower, more soulful song, or an upbeat rock-opera-esque number? I'm performing in a cabaret at a club near me relatively soon and trying to decide between two songs. Both are well within range and I can do them well, I just can't choose.

I guess it depends on the mood of the club and where you are in the program. I'd say if it's an intimate club and you have a nice spot in the program go for the soulful song.

Do you know what others are singing? It could be nice to have something that would contrast with the majority.

Well what are the two songs?

You could just flip a coin. G'luck.

Having sat through a LOT of cabarets I'd opt for the uptempo.... simply because (I assume) there will be a lot of songs that night and most people tend to choose the ballad. A night full of ballads - even if they're really well done - gets old fast. A well-done uptempo will always be received well. Have fun and break a leg!
