I know there have been threads like this before but with all the recent announcements of closings, what do you think will be next?
I think either...
Spamalot
Young Frankenstein
Spring Awakening

My money is on either Spring Awakening or Young Frankenstein. It'll be one behind the other. Even though Spring Awakening will have a hard time getting through the winter months, so it might announce a closing date first. Then again, I have no idea how Young Frankenstein is doing right now, so who am I to judge.
Hopefully none of them but I don't know how long Avenue Q can last.

ahh, Avenue Q. I knew I was forgetting one.
Must we do this every time a show posts a closing notice?

Every closing? There would be 5 by now. I know of one. Which already has pages of shows already scheduled to close.
No. there are a ton of these threads.
I predict (and hope): WICKED

For some reason, I just really don't think it'll be Spring Awakening. I know very likely in the next few months I will be eating my words, but it just doesn't seem like it's the next thing to close.
I'm feeling Avenue Q, Spamalot, or even dare I say August: Osage County. Its receipts the past few weeks have not been too great, and I would assume that it is a much more expensive show to run than Spring Awakening.

"WICKED"
I just laughed out loud.
And I laugh at the notion that it will be AUGUST or AVENUE Q
what's your point?
you keep on laughing, sweetheart. WICKED may stay strong but I think it's the material that counts... not the popularity.

Not the popularity that counts?? Are you high? I wish that it worked that way, unfortunately it's not. I hope to Quetzolcoatl that it's not Avenue Q or August, but in this society it is TOTALLY the popularity that counts.
Case in point:
[title of show]
Grey Gardens
any Sondheim you can name
the list goes on and on..
You misunderstood. Or I didn't phrase it correctly
I was saying that I WISH it was "Wicked" because I value content over popularity. I wasn't referring to how it really works, you jackass.

No you didn't phrase it correct. But we digress.
Believe me, I would happily cut off my arm to see Wicked go bye, bye. August and Avenue Q were two of the greatest theatrical experiences of my life I truly hope that thet aren't next, but the number don't lie..

I think Ave. Q will fight through the winter. They're still selling to 70%, which wouldn't be bad if the Golden wasn't so small and the avg. ticket was $60. They'll close in January, so that during "For Now" they can replace George Bush with Avenue Q. It'll be really sad, but still timing looks right.
August probably could make it through the fall. 60% is pretty good for a straight play.
Spamalot will probably go soon, selling to 55% in a 1440 seat theatre, just isn't going to hack it. Similarly, it'll be interesting to see how long Disney lets Mary Poppins go on for, only 58% capacity.
In the meantime, Young Frankenstein will be a victim of that dreaded Jan. 4 date. I've heard the Hilton is already booked for another show in the spring.
Hey Old Queen.. (I mean Old Queenie)
So I guess you are a theater snob?
Can't you enjoy different things? You seen to think that if it is not "what you like" you diss others. Bad Queen. Bad Old Queen.
Some of us like musicals like "wicked" & heavy drama like "argonotika" -- what is wrong with that?

I guess we all misunderstood since you clearly said 'predict'. And Wicked isn't going anywhere anytime soon. It's still making over a million each week. I predict Avenue Q.
I hope nothing but if I have to choose one I pick YF. I would die a little inside if SA closed.

Young Frankenstein.
That house is too big to keep a mediocre show going.
They need to close Phantom on the sole fact that it just needs to go away. Stop hogging B-Way!
But honestly, I think Mary Poppins is the next to go. And 13, but that's not exactly a hit.

Disney owns the New Amsterdam and the whole principle cast is changing in a week, they won't close it just yet.
Good point. All right, I give MP a year. In that case, Spamalot hands down.
I'm realizing now how many theaters will be empty in the coming months. Because the economy sucks, no shows want to take the gamble and move to Broadway while at the same time shows that are currently running are seeing steep decreases in sales and are closing their doors. Hmmm...

The Claymates might keep Spamalot open for awhile yet. My vote's on Spring Awakening, although I could see Disney making an announcement that they're closing Mary Poppins to put in some new Disney-movie-turned-stage-show.
