What will be the next big hit to go?

I think Spamalot will close when Clay Aiken leaves in January.

Also, I bet YF closes then too.

SA and Avenue Q, with their low running costs, will probably be able to weather the winter. Although, I wouldn't be the least surprised if either of them posted a notice.

From what I remember last year, Jan. 19th-20th was the weekend for some closings, I don't doubt that one or two shows might announce their closings around or on these dates. It comes in like periods throughout the year. You get the ones that close June or July 29th. Right after their failed Tony attempt. At the end of August. Middle of October and Middle of January. So the next show closing announcement wave to hit broadway will be in 4 months.

Anybody remember when "Brigadoon" postponed for lack of a suitable theater? Ahh, the irony..........

I think that YF won't survive the current climate.

Would not be at all surprised to see Avenue Q, Spring Awakening go.

Wicked and Phantom will stay for yonkers... and this is a good thing. These kind of shows draw people to Broadway who might normally not go to the theater. If they enjoy it they are likely to see other shows.

Besides, Wicked is so successful and deserves at least another 10 years or so. This show will still be around in 20 years in one form or another - just like Phantom.

Just thinking, would it be possible for Mary Poppins to switch theatres? Perhaps the Marquis (years from now, of course)Honestly, it could pull a Beauty and once the tour goes on for a little while, use that set and transfer. Otherwise, i was hearing about stunt casting in the winter months.

I have a friend in Poppins who says they are changing the entire show drastically and are currently going through a month of tech in addition to regular performances. I know this sounds weird but if they get critics to review it again it might build buzz to keep poppins going for another year or 2.

The only reason Brigadoon didn't come to Broadway was a lack of a theater? I thought there were a lot more problems than that.......

I hope we don't see anymore shows close... but I wouldn't be surprised to see SA go.

I think January 4, 11 and 18 are going to see a lot of shows shutter.

As long as Phantom doesn't close, I'll be ok.

Everyone I know that has gone to YF in the last few months said the show was packed.

I don't think it's doing as terribly as everyone on this board thinks it is...or hopes it is.

I could be wrong, but I don't see YF closing in January. I've seen the show several times over the past few months and, like WiCkEDrOcKS said, it was pretty full every time.

Also, Roger Bart is most likely leaving in November and I can't imagine them hiring / rehearsing with a new leading man for a mere two months. Just my two cents. :)

We're never gonna have another longest running show on Broadway again, are we?

If not Phantom, it's going to be The Lion King, Mamma Mia, or Wicked.

I'd rather have "Wicked" as the longest-running show than "Mamma Mia!" or "The Lion King."

"If not Phantom, it's going to be The Lion King, Mamma Mia, or Wicked. "

I hope Mama Mia is next, those lip singing bastards.

The shows I think are in danger are
*Spring Awakening
Avenue Q
Marry Poppins (I honestly forgot it was still open)
Spamalot
13 (and it hasn't even opened yet)

I don't see Mel Brooks admitting defeat so soon.
