When is Next to Normal Closing?/UK Transfer
#1When is Next to Normal Closing?/UK Transfer

Any ideas when it will close? It's currently Booking until September, but will it last the summer? As much as I'd love it to run forever, its not as commercial as others (hint: Billy).
Any news of a London Transfer aswell?
Thanks in Advance for comments.

Posted: 5/25/09 at 4:25amNo idea when it's closing, but I suggest changing the thread title as it makes it sound like this thread is about the show actually closing, question marks or more specific thread titles are highly appreciated on the board.

Posted: 5/25/09 at 4:31amI agree. The thread title makes it look like it is closing. May I suggesy "When is it" before the word closing? Or "When do you think it will close"?

Good suggestion, uncageg.
MichaelUK, welcome to the boards. It'd be great if NEXT TO NORMAL transferred to the UK, one never knows about these things really, CAROLINE OR CHANGE went to the UK with its brilliant lead headlining it and all, but other similar shows like GREY GARDENS didn't get past the rumor stage while SPRING AWAKENING and THE DROWSY CHAPERONE just failed miserably. NEXT TO NORMAL is hardly a big commercial hit in the US, so I wouldn't hold my breath for a West End transfer. This ain't HAIRSPRAY or LEGALLY BLONDE.

There is so much talk of this coming to the UK and i would be estatic if it did.
I think it would do well doing a limited season here in the UK 1st out of the West End and then building buzz before moving to the West End (a small house)
I think Spring died a death because the transfer was handled wrong, after its initial run it was thrown in to London so quick before any hype could build.

I think after the Tonys Next To Normal will pick up. It is slowly picking up now and I've seen lots of people in the Box Office. I think this could become a success, with time and patience it could make it.

Posted: 5/25/09 at 11:10amI'm sure it'll last through the summer, but unfortunately I think it'll be gone by October. But then again, the momentum it has picked up surprised me, so who knows!

Posted: 5/25/09 at 2:28pmAs I've been predicting from the beginning, I think it can run through the summer without a doubt. The momentum it has gained is amazing and I think the Tonys will help it even more. However, I have a difficult time seeing it do well after Labor Day. I hope I am proven wrong and it can survive during the fall and winter... maybe with low running costs it can, but I'm not sure. I hope it recoups and lasts at least a year.

When I saw the show for my second time yesterday the person I was with said to me while we were at Juniors before "look how long the line is to get in!" I looked and it was the box office line not the ticket holders line (most were already inside), I was very happy.
Also, a group of older people behind me were saying "I heard this show is incredible, it's only been open a few weeks and got 11 nominations, that's incredible!"
I hope that's a sign of what most people are thinking.
Also, Michael, you know it doesn't need to close on Broadway to transfer to the UK, right?

Posted: 5/25/09 at 2:48pmi saw it this past saturday night and it was COMPLETELY sold out. my friend and i got the last two tickets in the house because of a mishap we had with getting to the matinee we originally had tickets for, and ended up in the second row all the way on the right and we couldnt spot one single seat available in the whole theatre. not only that, but the audience clearly loved the show and was laughing, clapping, and crying throughout the whole thing. im glad to see that at least for now, the show is getting the success it deserves.

Thanks for everyone's comments on this.
WishingOnlyWounds2, Yes I do know the show can come over without it closing on Broadway. Just wanted to ask two questions. Sorry for any confusion. I really hope it comes over, althought I will see it in July when I'm over.
I just can't imagine another actress tackle the role of Diana though.
Thanks again

Posted: 5/25/09 at 9:56pmYay, I'm so glad it's getting such great word-of-mouth. The subject matter and plot isn't the easiest sell, but once people see it they are blown away and tell their family/friends about it.
