Ah, I was just curious because I know that the Scarlet Pimpernel concept album, the Evita concept album, and the ATOTC concept albums are all readily available.
Cyrano is readily available too. Just not legally.
Mr. Wildhorn has, I'm sure, an incredible problem getting his concept/cast recordings released. I'm not so sure any of the Pimpernel (perhaps the SP1 version paid back in the sense of hte word) recordings ever turned into a large profit, .. just about positive The Civil War didn't. Although all three of the Jekyll's apparently did. He's released one CD in the past 10 years: Jekyll & HYDE: Ressurection in 2006.
He recently released the concept album for Count of Monte Cristo, sung in English but released through "Sound of Music," a German-based record label (or to my knowledge). If you can hold on longer it will be released here in the US "Winter '08/'09," so hopefully soon. It stars Brandi Burkhardt, but I've yet to hear anything from it otherwise.
Why wait when you can order through Sound of Music? I already got my copy.
On top of it being a little pricey, why pay all that shipping when I couold wait another month and save a few bucks. This economy...look what it's done to me! I will buy the actual CD none-the-less, should it only get released "digitally" over here.
How is it? The accents aren't too much are they? Hahaha and anything special about the booklet or anything to that extent?
Not really. I'm terrible. I've got it transferred to my ipod, but I still haven't listened to it yet. The "Every Day a Little Death" track is screaming at me to listen to, because of the obvious Sondheim connection, but I'm doing homework and this, so Critso will have to wait.
Going back to the subject of Assassins, he was set to play Booth before the production got postponed. By the time Assassins was finally ready to go, he was already in rehearsals for Little Shop. He didn't turn down Booth, he was just no longer available.
He did drop out of Spamalot during rehearsals or right before they started though. Not smart.

The Count is pretty good. I'm listening to it now. Some of it is very Wildhorn, but some of it is very different and VERY enjoyable! There is no problem with accents... I actually forget that this is a German cast. They all sound great! Brandi is amazing! My only issue with this musical is the lyrics. They seem to be so cliche and generic and able to fit into ANY musical where the character is required to feel that emotion. It's time to grow, lyrically.
The Doug Sills Memories!!!
I saw him in dozens of shows over the years before he got a Broadway lead..
In the mid-80's I remember seeing him in a hoot of a show about 1930's Hollywood at a store-front theatre in Venice, Ca. He sang BLUE MOON and held the last note for about three days. His voice was to die for.
Saw him in a couple national tours and tons of regional theatre work in Southern Cal... a couple of sitcom guest spots and a couple of lead roles in failed TV shows.
I think before PIMPERNEL (a pretty lousy show in my book)he was about to call it quits.
So he got his moment in the Broadway sun (more than most who have been pounding the pavement for years).. I get the feeling that he has a settled life and a successful relationship and gets to do enough work to pay the bills and be satisfied.
Let him enjoy his life.. He deserves the chance to put his life before his career at this stage of the game.
I liked Pimpy 3.0. That version worked best for me. I really wish they'd worked on it more and opened with that version on Broadway. Then maybe the show wouldn't have the stigma attached that it seems to be destined to always have. Though, I guess it would have always had it being a Wildhorn show and all, but still.
Cat you know that Pimpernel 3.0 did open on Broadway with Carolee Carmello/Kudisch/Bohmer, correct? That version had no chance to live regardless of how good it was. The only thing I didn't like was they made everyone including Kudisch use a French accent whilst in France...which was annoying? Marguerite is enough with that!
SP 4.0 is probabyl my favourite. Tighter, kinks worked out (again), etc...that was the tour show. They also attempted to not have it *as* scaled down as 3.0 made it to be...which was something I thought it needed. The Pimpernel is large and extravagant, so why have the sets be more scaled down, yet still elegant I understand....I liked the big jail stuff/etc. they had at the Minskoff but thats just me :).

First of all--- LOVE Sills !! So wish he would have played the lead in "YF" (anyway... that horse is beaten already)
Anyway.... Brandi said a few weeks ago that the "Count..." recording would be released in the states most likely in January.

Yes. My comment was that I wish the show had been worked on more and initially opened on Broadway with the 3.0 version and not 1.0. It would have gotten way better reviews and maybe have run much longer. I agree that by the time it reopened as 3.0 the damage had been done.

I saw him almost three years ago in Boston in a workshop of "Kind Hearts and Coronets" with Jill Paice. Great role for him...he was fabulous. We chatted with him for a bit after the workshop and he said he hoped it would be Produced, but wasn't holding his breath. Haven't heard anything about it since.
Hey, there he is!

I saw that sexy beast at the theater a few weeks ago. Hopefully we'll see him in a show soon!
He was fabulous in A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC at the Kennedy Center in 02.
How could you possibly ask for a better Count Carl Magnus?
He also did a great job in the HIGHLIGHTS CONCERT that fall, filling in for someone at the last minute in addition to performing his material from ALNM.
