Just saw Shrek, again, and NO Humpty Dumpty... Does anyone know what happened?

He/she fell off the wall.
In Shrek all the swings have different fairy tale creature costumes than the people they cover, so it seems a swing was on for Humpty. Who sang her part in Freak Flag?

Humpty was from Jersey & was arrested in the recent scandal for taking bribes
He left with egg on his face.

Mr. Roxy, that was an eggcellent eggsplanation.
They also changed the Ugly Duckling to an Ugly Stepsister and it makes absolutely no one sense when she says, "They dragged me from the pond", during "Story of My Life".

Why do swings have different characters than the original ensemble member if the lyrics reflect certain characters? Don't they have alternate lyrics?
The 'swings having their own characters' thing makes it so awkward. Once when Haven Burton (the Sugar Plum Fairy) was on as Fiona, a swing dressed as a wizard took her place. During Story of My Life, the guard calling out all the names said, "Sugar pl-- WIZARD!!"
It's a cool idea, but it makes the rotation of swings in and out of the show a lot less smooth...
I'm assuming the swings are set up this way so that they don't have to build such detailed, and expensive costumes for each swing if they were to go on. It makes much more sense to have something rather generic (like a Wizard).
And for the record, the ugly duckling and Humpty Dumpty were both out when I saw it last month.
Humpty annoyed the hell out of me in this show, more so than most of the other fairy tale creature ensemble. Hated the costume. I think the idea of swings having their own characters is kinda cool, though.
To be honest, the actress who plays Humpty Dumpty also plays Shrek's mother, and she actually has a brilliant voice and makes the opening of the show tolerable!
However, this is when I saw it, and I have no clue if this double-casting has remained in tact/if the actress (Rachel something, I believe) has remained in tact as well.

You are talking about Rachel Stern. I saw her in the pre-Broadway tryout of High Fidelity. She has an amazing voice which, unfortunately, isn't showcased much in the musical.
They guy at the stagedoor was telling people that the costume was too heavy and they were making a new one.
Well that's good. I always felt bad for Rachel since she's stuck inside a huge egg for most of the show, with her poor little arms sticking out. Hopefully they'll make the costume a lot easier to move in, or, even better, just ditch the Humpty Dumpty idea.

What are all of the different swings? so far I've heard of the wizard, a stepsister, and Jack frost, not to mention a female gnome. Anymore?
jagfkb - There are way too many to mention... the entire ensemble has to be a different character. So I'd say upwards of 20 fairytale creatures -- totally made it the shoe-in for Best Costumes too, ps.
And yeah! Rachel Stern! She has a fabulous voice, I want to see her in something that features her more! Brilliant.

i saw the show today and was wondering the same thing!!! And there was no understudy announced. I realized it when she had the line "tumbled off a wall" in Story of My Life and was like wait what is that thing!?!?!? She sounded like the recording though, so now i'm just confused.
Kayla, there was no Humpty Dumpty?
Typically, they don't announce the understudies. Rather, they put a notice up on the understudy board and put slips of paper into Playbills.

no, i couldn't quite tell what the character was, I was beyond confused. But i swear it was rachel stern, just not in the humpty costume.

How long has the show been running and their JUST making a new one? Yeah, right!
It is Rachel Stern in a different costume that no one knows what the hell it is.
Kayla: Now that you mention it, I remember hearing a story about how they were changing the Humpty Dumpty costume. I don't know if what you saw is the final product or a temporary costume.
Dollypop, I thought the same thing. They are a while into their run and only determined this now?

Oh, I'm guessing this is the same Rachel Stern from High Fidelity? She was terrific in that show. Such a shame it closed so quickly. I think she's a real talent.
