Well, I'm still not sure if we're doing well known in the Broadway world or in Hollywood but anyway...

Big on Broadway: Manu Narayan, Sriram Ganesan, Eden Espinosa, Shakiem Evans, Cheyenne Jackson, Chester Gregory, Delisco, Felicia Finley, Jeremy Kushnier... off the top of my head...

I think Idina Menzel might be the break out "star" after the RENT movie. I could see her working successfully on both coasts and I think we need more singers like her in the mainstream.

Sorry, the crystal's gone dark...

I really think you people are overestimating the potential success of this Rent film.

Yes, you will go see it, and so will I (as an anti-Renthead), but who else is going to see it? A musical, about poor people with AIDS? That cuts out half the US anyway.
And Adam Pascal is one of the most unskilled performers I have ever seen. In my humble opinion.

Please don't attack me, just expressing my opinions.

As for those who will make it big OUTSIDE of Broadway - few will, I think.
Audra was already nominated for an Emmy, and she has a good chance of breaking big, because she obscenely talented.
Those with less than stellar acting chops (like some in Rent) will not go far.

Patrick Wilson is an up and comer, and so is Jeffrey Wright - that man is too talented for words.

Personally, I think I have too much bloom.

re: Adam, we're not really talking about skill. It's about who's going to become well known, and if the movie takes off, he probably will. There are plenty of people who are bigger stars than he is who have WAY less talent. That hardly means anything.

I think whether or not RENT is a success is a gamble now, but the subject matter made it big as a musical alone, so maybe it'll catch attention in the same way as a movie. The music is catchy, that's got to grab some ears. And it's not really just about AIDS. I love naivete and blanket statements, don't you?

Kristen Chenowith is already quite a star.
Certainly Patrick Wilson
Likely, Sutton Foster.

If Gavin Creel doesn't make it big in the mainstream music industry once his CD comes out, I'll be shocked. He has so much talent and his original music is incredible, I can easily see it being on the radio. If he just gets the exposure, i really think he'll be huge!

There are so many broadway stars who I really think could become famous if they do something mainstream. They arent going to become well known in Hollywood by doing Broadway. If John Tartaglia or Barrett Foa go Hollywood, I would bet anything they would hit it!

I would love to nominate Norbert Leo Butz. I fear that much of what is great about him would be lost on the small or big screen (great relationship with the audience and huge, flexible voice), like jarred03 pointed out about Kristin. But he might actually be able to make it on his comedic timing alone... I made the mental leap to John Lithgow managing both Hollywood and Broadway.

re: Of course it's not just about AIDS. But it's a pretty darn big part of it.
The show is about dealing with AIDS, and being lower on the economic ladder, and of course human relationships, but what movie isn't?
No blanket statement there.
As for the naivete, I didn't say Adam wouldn't big (which I don't think he will), I just said I think he's an unskilled performer.
The popularity of the film, and Adam's talent were two mutually exclusive thoughts.

Sutton Foster-If she ever takes a sitcom. She said that she was offered some sitcoms while in "Millie," and she wants to stay on the stage.

You completely misread, but it doesn't really matter. I know Adam's skill and the sucsess of the movie were two separate thoughts, and I addressed them as such.

RENT is absolutely partially about AIDS, but I called that a blanket statement because the way you put it sure didn't seem like you would consider it to be about what you now right, and are obviously aware of; it's about relationships, and about life. The fact that lots of films are about that shouldn't really dispell any of RENT's potential success, but again, at this stage it's a *total* gamble. My naivete comment was also addressed to this factor, NOT to what you said about Adam. As for that, you're entitled.

Back on topic, someone mentioned Norbert. DRS is going to make that man A STAR. He's go everything it takes.

I guess we'll see... if they ever make a Sunset Blvd. movie... who knows???

And I would like to say
Lea Salonga
{though her Disney movie success is amazing re: Which Broadway actor do you see being very well known in the future... I would definitely watch her, though she is my role model}

And also Idina, especially after RENT and also "After the Dusk"... and while the RENT movie is a gamble, I hope that it is a good one. When you think about it, a lot of movies are gambles. For example: I am a BIG HUGE Lord of the Rings fan... and it was a humongous gamble for them to make the movie, especially all three movies at once! But look how that turned out {very successfully!}

I have to agree w/ everyone on Kristin Chenoweth, all of her upcoming movies and her part on the West Wing are really making a name for herself.
