None, none of them should ever be on Broadway

Jennifer Lopez is 36 years old - exactly 20 years older than Maria is supposed to be.

How dare anyone even suggest Jennifer Lopez as Maria in West Side Story! I think I would boycott Broadway altogether if she was ever cast as Maria! I mean, I love me some J.Lo, but come on!

WHAT? Jennifer Lopez is OBVIOUSLY an Anita. Not a Maria. Jenny has the moves for Anita - and her voice is obviously more suited for Anita than Maria. Jenny dosen't have a big range, but I think a lot of work, she might be able to sing Anita.

I don't think Jennifer Lopez is suited for any singing role on Broadway.
Again, I love Jennifer, but I don't think she is that good.

Well come on now. There are some female roles on Broadway that call for very little singing talent - I'm sure there is something for Jen. She can handle Roxie in CHICAGO. I'm not saying she should play the role - but she can sing the part. She has the moves for Velma - but not the voice for Velma.

I can't believe that someone suggested J.Lo for Maria. Possibly, if there was a non-musical version of West Side Story. She definitely looks the part. But yes, she is much more suited to the role of Anita. Alas, seeing as she will never set foot on a Broadway stage *knock on wood*, we have no worries.
I'm also quite worried about the muscular poster with Julie Andrews as the icon. His/her views of certain popstars "talents" are worrisome. They are skewed to the point that I would question his/her seriousness. Are we sure that muscle23ftl is not being incredibly sarcastic?

I agree with Kelly Clarkson, she screams almost as much as Idina. hehe, but I love her anyway. Kelly Clarkson is actually a frighteningly good soprano, she was Jean in Brigadoon in high school, and she has a whistle register, so, with a little training to tone down her yelling, shed do really good.

I'd love to hear her "frighteningly good soprano" put to use.

I wish she would, I hate to hear her yelling so much

It's a stretch but...Jessica Simson as Audrey in Little Shop and Jennifer Lopez as Charity in Sweet Charity.

I'd prefer not to stretch things here...I guess these threads are just for fun, but I still don't like it.
The idea of J.Lo as Charity makes me REALLY LOVE Ms. Applegate!

Here is another suggestion that might force me to duck from people throwing things at me, but I'd love to hear Justin Timberlake as Angel and John Legend as Collins in Rent.

I hope you never reproduce!

Actually, the idea of John Legend isn't quite so nauseating. I'd like to hear him SING some of the score. Not so sure I would want to see him in an actual production. There are many popstars who I would enjoy HEARING SING some songs from certain shows, but I would almost certainly loathe their presence in the cast of a broadway show.

Yeah, perhaps you are right about the vocal aspect of it.
I wouldn't really want to see Timberlaker in that Santa outfit come to think of it.
I'll try and redeem myself here.
What about Kenny Loggins as the Teen Angel in Grease?

You're much safer now. I hate Grease!
...But, I can actually see that working! I could see that actually happening soon in some regional theatre!
Grease is abysmal, in my opinion.

I'll go astray one more time - how about Billy Corgan in Taboo.

He's crazy. The show's crazy. Why not?
The only thing Timberlake belongs in is a nice pair of low-rise briefs.

I am going to thread hijack for a moment.
You went to Pebblebrook High School? I went to Lithia Springs high school, but grew up in Mableton.
I actually went to GHP in 96, I was a Theatre major and he was a Dance major.

hey...i am not being sarcastic...i saw toni braxton and deborah cox and i really loved toni and thought deborah was mediocre as aida...toni has a character...her voice is unique and i thought eventho she has a low voice...she hit all the right notes...deborah on the other hand was plain and boring....her standbys were better than her...if i hear deborah on the radio...i dont know if its her until someone tells me....she has a good voice...but not distinctive...toni's voice is unique, and she sang in my point of view...way better than in her records...so toni was a pleasant surprise in aida.

I think Mandy Moore is a much better actress than a lot of people give her credit for. She was fantastic in Saved. She could pull off a whole lot of roles acting wise. She's a good singer, nothing special, and definitely not a powerhouse. But, you have got to remember that she was about 17 years old when she sang "Suddenly Seymour" with Adam Pascal. In a few years, and with more training, she could be great.

maybe mandy moore was nervous in suddenly seymour, but she was sharp as hell in a couple of places; plus, she does that mix between breathy and nasaly. i think that bway is just so challenging - you have to be so powerful and pure - there is no room for mtv video stars who can move really well but suck singing live. i don't know, i'm sure there are some who would surprise a lot of people, but i just think bway/musical theater is so hard.

I whole heartedly agree with Christina Aguilera playing Mimi. Or at least sing "Out Tonight." Talk about a possible eargasm.........*drip, drip*
I don't care if a person is a pop star or not. If they can act and sing then I see no problem in letting them have a try at BWAY. I mean, if movie actors, Saturday Night Live cast members, and complete unknowns get to have their chance, then why not them?
