Cher as Elphaba
edit: Seriously though, Kelly Clarkson would make a good Florence Vassey in Chess.

Mandy Moore for sure. She did a lot of Theatre before becoming a popstar.

Mandy Moore was originally thought to replace Kristin in "Wicked."

don't shoot me, but Christina Aguilera would sing the HELL out of the role of Mimi. I'd give up my firstborn to hear her sing Out Tonight!

Kelly Clarkson as Elphaba in Wicked. I don't know if she could do it eight times a week, but I'm sure she'd sound great the first few nights!

While I'm glad the rumors of her playing Mrs. Lovett were untrue, I think Cyndi Lauper would do quite well in a musical. I'll have to think about what role, however. She has some acting chops, too.
ETA: Thought about it some. Maybe a Faith Prince-type role? (Adelaide, Bells are Ringing)

Josh Groban as Anatoly in Chess! He did the benefit concert, and he was amazing!! If this is revived in the near future, I would love to see him do it!
But I'm also agreeing on Christina singing Mimi. She would really rock "Out Tonight"!

I second Kelly Clarkson as Elphie.
Question: Will Esparza win for The Homecoming?
BobbyBubby: I hope so. If only for the mental health of many people on this board.

I was gonna say I think Christina could act and sing the hell out of Mimi, and I am not even a big fan of hers. Mandy Moore could do a decent job in a show that didn't require her to belt that high. Her Adelaide's Lament was pretty good, except that she is far too young to play that role.
Kelly Clarkson would make an exceptional Elphaba, Maureen, Anmeris, or any of those types of roles (Hah..the Idina/Sherie roles). I think Fergie from Black Eyed Peas could ROCK as Marueen or Mimi...She is so amazingly hot and talented.

Kelly Clarkson would be a perfect Annie Oakley. It would be nice to see someone the right age for a change.

You know I once considered Kelly Clarkson and Gerard Butler in a T.V. Version of "My Fair Lady". Trust me Gerard sings good but not great I think he can pull a Higgins. Kelly sings great but I don't know if she can change Texan to British!

Kelly Clarkson as Eliza Doolittle? no way! i think Jessica Simpson is an excellent singer and she could be great in many shows...Mandy Moore expressed her love for musicals and she sang "Suddenly Seymour" with Adam Pascal...she didnt do a good job with that song...but she is a good singer ....also Christina Aguilera or Christina Milian. Toni Braxton was my favorite "Aida". Tamyra Gray was spectacular as Prya in "Bombay Dreams" and Vanessa Williams was fantastic in "Kiss of the Spider Woman".

"No two shows are alike in the making. Each show is a living
piece of your life in a small unreal world with its own character
and integrity; its own new set of memorable experiences and
incredible happenings. You begin to love and adapt to its strangeness.
Dreams harden into substance. Values come into focus. You wish
it would never end. The dream world vanishes like mist before a
rising sun; part of you vanishes with it. And back you land in the
real world with a thud- fogged, uneasy, jittery, difficult to get
along with. There is only one cure. A new show. A new, small
unreal world; new visions, experiences, incredible happenings.
Again you love it, adapt to it, wish it would never end.
But end it does. Another part of you vanishes.
That's show business."-Anonymous

Jennifer Lopez as Maria in WSS. Well, maybe if she were a little younger; but I think she could still pull it off.

Thought of another: Rufus Wainwright (although I'd certainly not call him a "pop star"). Actually, I'd rather see him write a musical.

Hey Muscle23ftl I can't believe you said Toni Braxton was your favorite Aida. That's terrible.. . she sucked so bad. She doesn't and didn't have a strong enough belt voice to pull of that vocal range and role. It's not as powerful when you are barely whispering "easy as life." Heather Hedley is and was by far the best Aida ever. If we have to choose a popstar I would say second best was Deborah Cox who sang the hell out of that role.

Deborah Cox... but otherwise, I know of none other that I would want to see on the Broadway stage.
So I'll have to agree with gelfling
