I saw the original production of THE SOUND OF MUSIC in 1960. I went to the theatre with misgivings, but ended up loving the musical. It has a very strong book and, except for the cloying "Do Re Mi" has an excellent score. But why change the orchestrations? With the right cast, including the 2nd leads, it could be a hit again. When was it last revived?
Gypsy9, the last revival ran for over a year starting in 1998. Rebecca Luker was Maria. I think there was some celebrity casting near the end of the run but I can't remember for sure.
I would love if AIDA was revived. I know they won't, but if Lincoln Center mounted a revival it would be spectacular.

Laura Benanti took over the role of Maria after Rebecca Luker left that production, and Richard Chamberlain played the Captain for some part of the run.

I wonder why there wasn't an American transfer of the ALW Production of The Sound Of Music?
^ I was actually wondering the same thing the other day!
Because it was based around a reality show casting stunt.
I'm still waiting for a Miss Saigon revival, personally.

I'd like to see a revival of Billy Elliot in about 15 years set in the round, instead on a normal Proscenium stage.

The recent London production of The Sound of Music was very good, I saw it twice in London and once on tour, I do think that it didn't transfer because it was too soon after the 1998 Broadway revival and it would have needed a big theatre like the Palace or the Broadway. It did transfer to Toronto where they did the reality show to find Maria.

From watching clips from the show, It looked like a beautiful production.
YES!!! Me too!! With Stephanie J. Block as Ellen!!!!
Perfect casting!! Get the Asian girl from Spring Awakening/Glee so we have a big name in the lead, and maybe MattMo or something as Chris and we've got a show!
