Hi all! I'm headed to NYC with 3 friends to see a show this Wed.. TDF doesn't have anything great offered for that day. In your experience, which shows would we be most likely to get rush or lottery seats if we opt for trying that over TKTS? (No desire to see Head Over Heels or Getting the Band Back Together.)

For lottery:
•Spongebob
•Bronx Tale
•Beautiful
•Once on this Island (this one is in person)
I’ve never tried rush tickets so I can’t say anything about those.

TPTGW had a super easy rush when I went on a saturday - I just popped in right when the BO opened. The seats were $45 and I ended up with phenomenal 6th row orchestra seats
I know you asked about TKTS and TDF but the TodayTix app has most shows for last minute booking. Waitress, Kinky Boots, and Chicago are usually on there for $40-70 the day of.

Their rush tickets were $30 when i went last November. Sounds like they bumped it to $45. It's a great show and still a decent deal but that's quite a jump.

I walked up to SpongeBob and scored a $30 Rear Mezz ticket on an aisle. 5 minutes before the show! This was last Friday night.
Several months ago, I was able to get $30 balcony tix for The Play that Goes Wrong (which is an amazing show--funniest play I've ever seen) by just walking up as well.
If you go to shows that are low BO or closing soon, you can frequently get a cheap ticket!
Mean Girls has an in-person lottery, as well. Not sure if it's picked up during the summer, but it wasn't too crazy in the spring. Plus the seats are in the front row AND it happens 30 minutes before the OOTI lottery, so you can try both in the same day.

Carousel is an easy rush. I think it's well worth $40.

I read on another post that the Mean Girls lottery generated a huge crowd.

We were planning for a matinee and TPTGW only has an evening show. I do plan on seeing it before it leaves BW - will probably buy through my TDF membership.
I haven't been back, since I won on my first try, so I can't say... but if you're doing OOTI anyway, may as well try this one beforehand. No matter how big the crowd is, you have the same odds as everyone, and still better odds than most digital lotteries.

One person in the group doesn't want to see Carousel.

This person has good taste.
How many are in the group? That might also rule out lotteries, if you need multiple winners to all get in... although OOTI was pretty good about lottery loser seats in the past for only $10 more.

I'd do Waitress if it were me! Hang out at the box office an hour before it opens and you should be golden for rush tickets. (Either way, I do think trying a morning rush - and then having some of those other options in your back pocket, like the in-person lotteries - is the way to go.)

TKTS didn't have much that we could agree on so we split up - 2 of us waited on the Hamilton cancellation line; 2 waited for Rush tickets at Hello, Dolly. Dolly came through first so that's what we saw. $69 for first mezz with a slightly obstructed view. We thought that was pretty good considering Bette was playing Dolly in this performance.
