Please be honest.
Cats!
Wicklyn
Gypsy!
Seriously, THE LION KING.
It's the most amazing, stunning show. Brilliant costumes, lighting, sets, and great plot & songs to go with it.
The brilliant costumes, lighting and sets is true at least.

I would have to say Rent. Though certain casting choices leave much to be desired, it still is such a wonderful show. It's just special.
Hahahaha!
Yeah, the plot is OK. Half the songs are great, the rest are boring.
I think it depends on what you classify as amazing, but I was absolutly blown away by Jeffery Mays in I Am My Own Wife....He changed his speech, body language, and mannerisims so quickly sometimes I forgot it was a one man show!
Ave Q! Those puppets are soooo darn cute!

Edit-My first double post! whoops
I haven't seen every show, so I can't compare it to the others, but I thought the Producers was amazing - the sets, costumes, dancing, music, everything! I only saw the national tour, but with Alan Ruck, who was great and deserves the chance he is getting to play Leo on Broadway.
you asked me to be honest... ok... WICKED. Bash me all you want... you guys scuk anyway and i don't care what you think : )
luvWicked: Don't worry about what other people think and voice your opinion. If they have a problem, tough; I don't see how it's hurting them in any way.

Good question! I would say the most amazing current show is a tie between "La, La, Lucille" and "Yip Yap Yaphank." I hope neither one ever closes. Updated On: 10/10/04 at 11:11 PM

I would say Wicked or Wife for substance, but is you mean spectacle I would have to say Dracula
Hairspray!! That's all that needs to be said.
hairspray
Guess what Im gonna say. :)
Sorry, guys but WICKED gets my vote. Hate it or love it, you must admit that you got goosebumps when you saw it at least once (which at least for me is very rare during Broadway shows). Defying Gravity will do for WICKED what the chandelier (sp) did for POTO. WICKED, in my opinion, is the most creative and sophisticated musical Ive ever seen. Its truly a spectacular phenomenon that must be seen by all. Years down the road, I believe WICKED will be one of Broadway's must-see wonders. (As stated in VARIETY...)It is a rare thing: a starless show. People are actually seeing it for the production itself (When Kristin Chenoweth left, ticket sales did not falter, and ditto for Idinas mid-summer break). Its a wonderful show (that I must admit has flaws...I mean theres NO such thing as a 100% perfect show) but when put together, remains the best musical Ive ever seen. It will ALWAYS hold a special place in my heart.

wickedrocks, i agree... but i can't decide between that or my all-time favorite, phantom of the opera
Defying Gravity will do for Wicked what Tomorrow has done for Annie. it gives the first-time audience member a chance to say "ooohh i've heard that song!" and gives everyone else a chance to try and remember what sorts of meds they were on the first time they heard it.
my vote for most amazing show currently playing. god that's a hard one. this is what they call "Stagnant Season", when the good new shows are still in the process and the tired old ones haven't run out of cash yet. i suppose it's a toss-up between POTO and Hairspray, thought the Producers has a pretty great cast right now. it was nice back when we at least had Les Mis to raise the bar.
