Ashford was robbed last year for Curtains. Hopefully, it will not happen again.
YF won't be shut out. I'd say it will get at least 4 (or more): Set, Fitzgerald, Martin, maybe Foster, probably score, likely choreography and even Best Musical. I'm not saying its perfect but in this year of, let's face it, crap, at the very least Young Frankenstein is a true musical comedy.

Without having seen Cry-Baby, I agree that Rob Ashford's Curtains choreography was VERY unlucky to lose out to SA last year.
I also think Christopher Fitzgerald will definitely be nominated for YF, maybe one or two others (probably pick 1-2 out of Martin / Mulally / Foster) and it should get a nod for set design.
YF will most likely win for Best Sound (a new category this year!)

I agree, I don't think YF will be shut out.
And yeah... considering SA won choreography last year, in the midst of three other great choreographed shows, who knows what will happen with that category. I still don't understand how SA won over LB, Curtains, and Mary Poppins.. I know people like that show but the choreography tony doesn't make sense.
In terms of the Grease question, I re-read the rules and they are extremely vague. The rules basically say, "There will be 4 nominees in each non-acting category unless we decide that there should be fewer." So who knows what will happen?
I think that all 11 Tony-eligible musicals will get at least one nomination, although I think that if any of them get shut out, it will be Little Mermaid. I think that Cry-Baby will get its choreography nomination.
I would be surprised if ITH didn't win for choreography.
The Little Mermaid will probably be shut out. Cry-Baby will be nominated for choreography.

I have a feeling it will be a tight race between In The Heights and YF, In The Heights is pretty amazing in that section

Cry Baby will be nominated for choreography, with the actual award going to either that show or In the Heights (with Heights being more likely at this point IMO)
And I think that The Little Mermaid will get something; remember that Tarzan was nominated (for lighting, I think)...
Mermaid better get a nom for lighting!
I have to admit, I hated Little Mermaid but it had good lighting.
I know I love ITH and that is why I think it will be nominated for everything. And I tink it will be nominated for Lighting, Sets, Choreography, Music, Lin Manuel, Robin, Myabe Olga or Mandy and Best Musical. And definitely Music whatever (The New One)
The play categories are so competitive this year (not only a lot of them, but a lot of favorably reviewed ones), that I think a bunch are going to be shut out.
My predictions for a shut out are:
November, Is He Dead?, The Farnsworth Invention, A Bronx Tale, Cymbeline, Pygmalion, The Ritz, Old Acquaintance.

Uhhh...Glory Days?

I'm still hoping for Allison Pill to get a nomination for Mauritius. I thought she was really, really wonderful in it.
I really think that each musical that opened this season, with the exception of Glory Days, will get at least one nomination.

Sorry, blaxx, that was my "joke of the night". I AM ashamed! ;(
Glory Days
Top Girls
Passing Strange
Thurgood
Les Liasons Dangereuses
Not sure if Xanadu, The 39 Steps, Cry Baby, Boeing-Boeing, or November will.
TLM-Will for design, orchestrations, and for Sherie, but probably won't win any.
musicaltheatrefan - do you know ANYTHING that is not Wicked?
There is no way most of those shows won't get nominated.

musicaltheatrefan, I'm glad you said Xanadu...I happen to think this is one of those overrated shows. Fun, nice to watch, but...quality theatre???
blaxx, I know-----how can "Passing Strange" not be a contender?!Hello!!!

That's not what the thread is about - Xanadu WILL certainly get nominations, like it or not.

Amen! I'm hoping he is redeemed for that this year. I loved Cry Baby's choreography.
"...and a live performance by the cast of Young Frankenstein" will attract more viewers to the Tony Awards show than pretty well anything else on the stage.
I said I'm not sure if Xanadu will. It might, it might not. Blaxx, I've had an almost 2-month vacation from you, and here you are again. Yeah, I like "Wicked". I think it is a great piece of modern American musical theatre. You may not, that is okay. I have my opinions, you have yours. I respectfully disagree with you about some things, and I'm sure that there is a lot that we AGREE on, as well. So, let's not focus on what we disagree with, but on what we agree with. I don't think you're a bad person, but you're a little insensitive on this board sometimes. You're probably not as bad in real life, with actual people and face-to-face conversations, but on the internet, we're all just usernames, with no feelings or emotions whatsoever to you, and it doesn't seem to you like you're hurting anyone, but you are.

Well, if Xanadu gets nominated, OK. But I hope it will not take the award away from a more quality show. You know how sometime those things go...MHO
And blaxx, yes, try to express yourself without making it sound like a personal attack!!! I've gotten over some of my sensitivity about comments like these, but they are still not very cool. :I
