I beleive this production is using the UK tour set? I saw that production in London when it was 'filling in' at The Palace. I liked it, but only because the tickets were cheap (I think I paid £10 the second time I saw it). I love the music, the cast is obviously different though but the one I saw was great. It is a shame the tour is closing
yay! I'm seeing it tommorow.

Darn! I was sooo looking forward to seeing Eric Kunze again.
I paid 15 quid to see this at the palace before spmalot moved in, and well I have to agree, it was pretty bad. The best thing about the production when I saw it was the children. They were wonderful!
Just got my ticket for tomorrow $28.00 ROW E ORCHESTRA CENTER -4th Row
Wow ! For the looooooongest time .... This will be my 1st time in 9 yrs to sit again at the Orchestra at the Wang Center. I was always sitting at the nosebleed seats.
Folky- got my tix already.. let me know if youre going tomorrow too? There's still tons of tickets for $28.00 for ORCHESTRA CENTER 1-8 rows.. wow! unheard of.
Now.. I hope its worth my time ...(2 1/2 hours) tomorrow.

Let us know what you thought!
I saw the show last night and I'm not sure I agree with the people who say that the problems are with the believability of the main story line. I don't think that's the issue. I think that aspect was handled well. Sure, you kind of have to 'go with it' - but it's not THAT unbelievable given their situation...and I think it's handled well within the show.
The issues I had with the show were with the direction. I thought that overall, the staging was horrible and good LORD some of those lyrics were completely horrifying...not to mention the endless reprises (as someone here mentioned somewhere else).
It think it was definitely worth my $28 and I'm glad I saw it. There were some outstanding performances. I really enjoyed Eric Kunze (great voice)and I could listen to Whitney Bashor sing all day long...LOVED her voice.
The cast is certainly giving it their all, and I'm sad to hear they'll soon be out of work.

I never understood why they kept dragging this show back out here in the UK.The 1st run of the show was not well reviewed and it didnt last very long, the UK tour with its cheap sets and cheap seats didn't sell and then to bring it back to the West End again....let it die already.
After its awful US opening years ago in Washington (when it was planned to go to broadway) they should have just let it go
They should just leave this craptacular buried.
I saw this show when it opened in Houston and am shocked the tour has made it this long. It sold horribly here and the audience reaction, as well as the critical reviews, were horrible. The director was there when I saw it and made a cute speach (although screwed up a lot of facts) that the show was broadway bound and they were using the tour to get moment to move to broadway. I am glad that never happened because the show is dreadful (the cast was great but the show needed to be overhauled majorly). So I am sad to see the show close as actors will loose their jobs but thankfully it is folding because that show was aweful!
So, jaystarr, where's the review? :)
I just saw it tonite at the The Wand Center. I will post my 10/10 Report tommorow, if I am not busy. I met Eric Kunze & Whitney Bashor (as Swallow) I actually met them backstage after the show. I will post pics, review & the whole nine yards....tommorow.

Boston Globe just panned the show:

"Nothing's ever quite as bad as it might appear," says the character known as The Man in "Whistle Down the Wind."
No. Sometimes it's worse.
Bad enough that "Whistle Down the Wind," the touring musical at the Citi Wang Theatre through Sunday, has music by Andrew Lloyd Webber that makes "The Phantom of the Opera" sound restrained. Bad enough that lyricist Jim Steinman, best known for his work with Meat Loaf, is shameless enough to throw in a winking reference to lovers "by the dashboard light."
Bad enough that The Man is either Jesus returned to earth or a convict escaped from prison, or maybe both; bad enough that every Southerner onstage speaks with a different accent, that the choreography is as cheesy and graceless as you're likely to see outside of "American Bandstand," that the book (based on the Hayley Mills vehicle of the same name and perpetrated by Webber, along with Patricia Knop and Gale Edwards) never bothers to make relationships clear or emotions believable, and that the gloomy-rustic set is made even more gloomy by shadowy, uneven lighting.

Eric Kunze is great in the show and he is a very nice guy. I saw Andrea Ross and thought she was incredible. Get that girl to Broadway!!
OMG, the choreography was so horrible!! Can't wait to hear your thoughts.

good deal! Updated On: 2/2/08 at 01:02 AM
If anyone lives in the Hampton Road area of VA, do you know whether there is a discount code available yet? Though I just realized that the only day I could see it is Saturday and Maragret Cho is at the NorVa that night too...for $25. I am almost wondering whether it is even toss-up!
