White Christmas
re: White Christmas#50
Posted: 10/20/06 at 1:22pmI didn't even think Circuit City was still around!

Posted: 10/20/06 at 1:58pmOff topic, but the Circuit City in my area sucks big time with their cast recording selection.

Posted: 10/20/06 at 2:14pmMine too. Their pricing is good, but they don't have anything interesting.

"...it was the perfect show (IMO) and it looks like I'll be trekking up to Sacto to see it this year. "
"White Christmas" is a wonderful show! Just an FYI...The SACTO version is a licensed version, so it could be completely different than what you may have seen before (as Randy Skinner, Walter Bobbie, etc. are not involved). Last year, there were 3 companies of the "original"(Bobbie/Skinner) version-- San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Boston. This year, the producers have licensed the rights out to several regional theatres in addition to producing 2 of the Bobbie/Skinner versions (Detroit and St. Paul). I'm not sure which theatre got the extra set/costumes from the "original" version.
That said, it's nice that audiences across the country get to see the story and hear the music of "White Christmas," and I'm sure that each production/version will have its own holiday charm and wonder. As I said earlier, it is a wonderful show.

Posted: 10/20/06 at 5:15pmYeah, I thought I was going the cheaper route with Circuit City...but they just told me it could be on back order til November 10th. So I definitely cancelled that and am now going through Amazon, haha. I learned my lesson!
Who would play you in the movie? "Taye Diggs." --Brian d'Arcy James

Posted: 10/20/06 at 6:17pmI'm hoping to get the OCR soon. I love the film and was fortunate enough to catch the original production at The Muny with the late Howard Keel and Karen Mason in the Rosemary Clooney role. I know the show has been revised since then and I hope at some point to catch the revised version.

thanks for that info jospehine2! I have a question though, what does the "licensed version" vs. "original version" mean? I thought once a show was done, and regional theaters did it...regional had to stick to the finished final script that was used.
That's not what happens? They can change scenes and songs? If so, I don't want to go to Sacto to see a different show!

Posted: 10/21/06 at 9:42pmjustme2- I think you'll probably get the same script and songs...any changes would be very minimal. You may not see the original sets, costumes, etc. You more than likely won't see the same choreography...meaning there may or may not be a lift and the ladies dancing on the stools in "I Love a Piano," which were mentioned earlier. You will still see a great show (IMHO)!

Posted: 10/21/06 at 10:25pmI cannot wait to see this! White Christmas is my favorite holiday movie. I'm pleased to read that the show does the movie justice (plus, you can't beat a live show!). I'll be seeing it in Detroit over the Thanksgiving holiday. Can't wait to read more casting info.

From what I hear, Seattle's 5th Ave got the extra set of costumes and scenery. They are not the Walter Bobbie/Randy Skinner production though. Only the St. Paul (the company I'm in) and Detroit are the original versions of the show.
I'm sure that each licensed production will be wonderful, but you just can't beat Randy Skinner's choreography. He's really the 'go-to' guy for choreography from that time period. Randy is also setting the choreography for the London production starring Lorna Luft in the role of Martha.
