I hate the Dodgers but LA is OK.
Since the Dodgers have been winning LA is accepting them again.
But the Angels- are my boo's.

I used to live in NYC, Boston, and now I live in SF so I have to hate the Dodgers! It comes with living in SF. The Mets and the Red Sox will always be my favorites, followed by the SF Giants and Oakland A's.
I am a Giants fan in a family of Giants fans, so I must hate the Dodgers, or I risk being disowned.

I don't think the Dodgers streak hurts them but LA has always been accepting of them even in bad times. Even the year after the Angels won the World Series, the Dodgers easily still beat them in ticket and merchandise sales. Just sayin!
Go Dodgers!
I don't dislike the Angels though but I HATE the Giants. Comes with the territory.

i grew up on the east coast (boston), but i've lived in la for the past 10 years and everyday i feel so lucky to live in southern california.
the moutains, the beaches, the weather, what's not to love.

I love LA because best12bars lives there.
Oh god, I get so so so so jealous. I want nothing more than to live in the heart of NYC, where EVERYTHING in the theatre world seems to happen...*sigh*
But, think about it. We're way luckier than someone in say..Oklahoma. We have a great theatre scene here, as small as it is compared to New York's.
I'd have to say that we're in probably one of the best places in the country for theatre outside of Broadway...I've seen some amazing shows this summer, and something like Goldstar Events is a great resource to have to get notified of shows in LA. So I'm just glad I'm not in some rural city in the middle of the country where you have NO chance of even tours coming through.
Yeah I definitely wish I could see more of the shows happening on Broadway. I hate to have to wait a bunch of years after a show has opened to see it IF it goes on tour. But it is fun to get to see a show, like Drowsy Chaperone and Curtains, before it opens in NY. Plus im close to Vegas so I got to see Avenue Q with John Tartaglia and Rick Lyon(i know the people in NY saw them too, but i mean it was cool to see members of the original cast) and the new Phantom show.
Traffic in LA? What about the traffic in Chicago!!! I have only lived in LA for 3 years, and I lived in Chicago for 6. In a city that has great public transportation, I never understood why the highways were so crowded! I'll take LA traffic over Chicago any day!
Ok, so we don't get to see all the NYC shows, but that's what vacations are for! I am lucky to be able to go once a year and see great theatre. I will say that LA is really producing some great theatre, especially in North Hollywood. I am lucky to be able to work in Musical Theatre too, it's out there - you just have to look for auditions.
Cheers!
miss pennywise---You just made my weekend.
Thanks ever so, sweetie!
The traffic issue in LA depends on where you live and where you work.
My commute is 30 minutes each way, tops. And, I am 20 minutes from the beach, 10 minutes from LAX, a couple of hours from the mountains, and about 30 minutes from Hollywood.
A lot depends on location, location, location, timing, and listenting to AM Radio for traffic reports.
I do envy those that have access to all of the broadway theater choices in NY, but I don't hate LA.
I hate LA because Twelvy lives there.
Too.

"I have liked a lot of things about LA the few times I've visited, but the absolute dealbreaker for me in terms of ever living there is the traffic. How do you LA residents cope with it?"
The traffic can be maddening, but at least we can find plenty of places to park, lol. The streets of Manhattan are the craziest I have ever seen for parking.
I do envy NYC for its theater scene, and in the final say Broadway is the best there is. However, having lived in Toronto, almost like a sister city in so many ways to NYC, I hate the incredible heat waves in summer and freezing cold in winter. In L.A., I can lay by the swimming pool on New Year's Day. It doesn't get better than that.
And L.A. may not have many large theaters, but I have heard that with our smaller theaters we have more acting venues in this area than NYC does, including its off-Broadway theaters.
The major difference is that L.A. is a movie town, and that is where people in the arts have to make a living (probably impossible to do with theater here), while in NYC people can make a living in the theater but problably not the few movies shot there. Each coast has something. You have muggings, we have freeway shootings.
One thing we do share in common is that we both have subways. : (

I live in San Diego. The only time I go to LA is to see a show or go to some of the surrounding ammusement parks (Universal, Disneyland Resort ect.) L.A. is 'ok'. It is way too congested and 'dirty' for my taste. (I know LA is not dirty everywhere, but it just seems so rundown.) I understand how someone might not like LA. However, San Diego, Santa Barbara and San Francisco are wonderful. They redeem California from any negetive stigmas LA may inflict.
I'm loving L.A. at the moment! :)
Free Passes to Theatre!!
LA is fine for 3 or 4 days. After the fourth day I gotta go home.

LA reminds me a lot of NJ, with the traffic and malls, but your weather is better more often, and your palm trees are real and bigger (hey, it may be global warming, but we've got them along our shore now).
Anyway, I'm glad to have the best of both worlds, and to live so close to NYC. I'll take Sandy Hook over Venice Beach anyday!
What's that I smell from the east...?
Ah, YES, the snobs are in bloom again.
That's the first sign of autumn in New York, isn't it?
Bars, no sign of autumn today, it's FREAKIN' HOT OUT!!!!!!!
Pass the water... and some free tickets (you know, since we're in L.A.)

same here. :]
I am from NorCal, and I pretty much hate LA. Its just not a very enjoyable place. Especially since there is the lack of (and appreciation of) theater.
I don't hate LA b/c you can always count on Goldstar to offer a discount ticket for the same show (national tour productions) that SF hosts and never be offered on Goldstar.
But when you say "LA," it is a vast region and some area are really bad and some area are nice (San Gabriel Valley). I go to L.A. (and Orange and San Diego counties) often and boy, some of the cities in L.A. county are horrible and depressing.
