I couldn't wait for the "Hump the Hostess" waltz...
I always thought that "Could I Leave You" from FOLLIES was a brilliant musical portrait of a WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF-type marriage.

And of course the title for this ridiculous exercise is...
CALL ME MARTHA.
Sonny Jim
Waiting for mommy to come wash me in the tub, her kimono open, her melons bobbling

Posted: 12/12/07 at 2:00amI agree, it needn't be done...but IF it HAD to be done, Sondheim is the only one I think could do it.

i think i would be scared to see how this turns out.
in Boston they have a stage adaptation of this show called "Who's Afraid of the Virgin Mary". that one is actually really fun. Joseph & Mary are throwing a cocktail party in the manger for their secular friends Kris Kringle & his wife. :)
it's not a musical though...

Posted: 12/12/07 at 2:52pmi think Albee's play "The Play About The Baby" would work as a musical. but mostly because the play itself wasn't very meaty. the songs could help to flesh a lot of it out.
