And I am so psyched. I haven't seen Xanadu yet, but I am so glad I'm losing my Xanirginity with Cheyenne and Whoopi. The seats I have are mezz (I believe front, though could be rear) so I won't be able to give TOO detailed a report, but the next morning (or day) I am seeing the matinee on stage.
You'll actually have to wait to hear about the chemistry between Whoopi and Mary because Andre is on as Melpomene tomorrow.

The choosing was not...

Mary might already be away preparing for her concert:
THEME AND VARIATIONS Mary Testa hasn't spent much time this month in Broadway's Helen Hayes Theater, where she plays Xanadu's evil muse Melponeme -- but for good reasons. The versatile actress has just finished filming a role in Four Single Fathers and has now headed up to Barrington Stage in Pittsfield, Massachusetts to prepare for Sleepless Varations, her music-theater piece that will play there July 31-August 3.
I'm going tonight, going to be right onstage with the Whoopster!! Going to try and run home and post, but my friend wants to stagedoor and get his Jumpin' Jack Flash DVD signed...
"Hey little girls, look at all the men in shiny shirts and no wives!" - Jackie Hoffman, Xanadu, 19 Feb 2008
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
My friend got a ticket to go see it. However, she couldn't use it and asked if I wanted it. I said yes because it is whoopie's first performance and its an on stage seat. I am VERY happy and VERY much looking forward to this.

Will not see it again simply because she is in it. Time to move on to another show. I am not a big fan of seeing the same show over & over but to each his own.
Please post your thoughts on Whoopi's performance. I have had no desire to see Xanadu because I really didn't like the movie. Now that Whoopi is in it, I may need to reconsider.
I wouldn't let the fact you didn't like the movie hold you back from seeing the musical. It's apples and oranges - and in fact, you might even enjoy it better since it satirizes the movie if anything...
"A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men" - Willy Wonka
If you didn't like the movie, you will love the show with or without Whoopi. It skewers all the bad stuff and preserves all of the priceless gems of the movie (meaning the music and the greatest plot ever conceived).
If you have at least 4 of your senses, you will like this show.
You are convincing me Craig and BNN that I must go see Xanadu! Keep in mind I have been a HUGE Whoopi fan since her first HBO stand up special and have seen every movie she has been in. Back to Xanadu, I think I need to get to NYC and see it in August.
I've actually never seen the movie, but I LOVE this show. It is HYSTERICAL. I told my mom and my little sister to go see it. They have tickets for tomorrow. I was so jealous when it was announced Whoopi was joining the day before they went. I would have gotten a ticket for myself and met them there.
First of all, Push, NO ONE liked the movie! (Well, to be fair, I have seen clips of it that I "liked" simply because they were unbelievably bad.)
XANADU the stage musical is fabulous! Very clever, hysterically funny, brilliantly imagined. It also proves that there really can be a good juke box musical if the creative team takes the right approach to the material.
Don't miss it!!! (I am going back to see it again with Whoopi myself.)

I'm convinced. I now want to see Xanadu! I was planning on making a trip to NYC sometime in the next month or so to see In The Heights and now will plan on seeing Xanadu as well. Thanks everyone for your input.
