I actually think the life of Gregory Hines would make a wonderful musical. It would certainly be a natural to stage the dance numbers. Oh, I MISS him!

For the record there is already a Judy Garland musical. I think there's two. One was called "Somewhere".

Isn't there a musical about Diana? I think it played off-b'way a few years ago and was called The Queen of Hearts. My friend was Camilla Parker Bowles.
Or did I dream it?

I seem to remember reading somewhere that someone wrote an opera based on her life...
Definitely not a celebrity. We hear enough about celebrities' lives whether we want to or not. Some unknown hero. Or a person who was celebritized by a heroic act. Like Rosa Parks. Someone who did something to actually help someone. Like the HBO movie about the women who fought for suffrage. Not just yet another performer with an alcohol and drug problem who killed themselves.
Mr. Matt - I couldn't agree more. I was actually thinking of something along the lines of Song of Bernadette.. (I mean, really - it even has the word SONG in the title already!) though religious in tone, its really a very moving film, of course based on a real person...I'd love to see it musicalized.

Gregory Hines, yes!
Prince

I'd say Bob Fosse but All That Jazz was a great movie
An old teacher of mine at San Jose State wrote a musical called, Die, Die, Diana!, about Princess Di. Supposedly it had a wicked sense of humor, but I never saw it. It was performed at San Jose State in 1998.
He tried to sell it to London producers, but couldn't.
The last I heard, he changed the title, but I don't know if it has been performed anywhere else.
Princess Diana.
shouldn't this go in the off-topic thread? :)
