I don't like Kristy Cates' voice enough to want her to have the role full-time. She has a nice voice, but I don't find anything special or unique about it. But she's doing a wonderful job as a standby!

BLaaaaaah. Kristy.
I think she'll probably take over in Chicago if Ana decides to go elsewhere? But I know what you mean Cindy...she's been shuffled around all over the place.
This is my signature.

I personally think that Kristy Cates sounds the most free and open, of the actresses I've heard, in the high belting sections. That is because she mixes it all. I have a thing for classical training. Kristy has obviously had it.
However, I think her voice is better suited to other styles of music. She has more of a Sutton Foster appeal, in my estimation. The rock-belting thing really doesn't suit her. Her voice is overqualified.

Thank you, meagan!
I love both Julia and Sherie! They are two of the best voices of their generation, in my opinion.
I hate that people consider Elphaba to be the best female role on broadway!
There are other roles out there! Sherie is currently in a great role that she performs well.
Julia is in Lennon...she could do with a starring role in something else...not necessarily Wicked.
I think Andrew Lippa should write something new for Julia. She sings his music REALLY well. Maybe a revival of "John & Jen." She'd be great!

You know what else I hate?

when I saw Eden she cracked during defying gravity, which kinda killed the eden elphaba experience for me...
not to mention she's less than kind.

How can anyone NOT want Heather Headly to do this role!? OMG! I STILL cant believe that some ppl said she didnt have the pipes for it! They didnt say that on this thread, but they did in another one.

I really liked Eden Espinosa in the role. And I honestly don't like Kristy Cates' voice that much. She performed at my camp (I recorded 60 seconds) and while she was good, she wasn't amazing.

I think you'll see ice skating in hell before you see Heather Headley taking over the role of Elphaba, even if the producers desperately wanted her. (Which I doubt is the case) I love Heather and I think she's a formidible talent who was truly deserving of all the accolades she got and more.
But I also think her ego is big enough that she would feel that taking over even the much-coveted role like Effie, was step down.
Based on her statements in the few interviews she's done, I think she feels that she deserves to originate roles in new works or classic revivals. Is such a haughty attitude out of line? Possibly.
But despite the fact that her star heat has cooled considerably, her career isn't exactly in the toilet. She still has the option of waiting for the perfect vehicle in which to make her Broadway return and I doubt seriously that it will be Elphaba.
Besides, I think Zoran912 who is spot-on in saying that it takes a strangely skewed perspective to think that Elpha is the be-all and end-all of worthwhile female roles.
Someone like Sherie Renee in DRS, has a pretty good gig!
