Lovinlife- Also, your opinion of "talented" may differ fromt hose who are casting the show. For all anyone knows, Kelly might have auditioned for a show, and just wasn't chosen.

HUGE deborah C hit? easy as life? since when did the DANCE chart count at all. lets face it.. its all about TOP 100 for singles. u know that. certainly not the dance chart. And as much as i love Toni, she is FAMOUS for what she accomplished in the past.. she is NOT a HUGE recording artist of today. is she well known?> yes.

Um, I wasnt saying that I will never see another show until Kelly is on the boards. It's called wishful thinking, and discussion. How do I make no sense? I'm saying that the producers should scout for talent, period. The announcement of Diana as Brooklyn and Penny made me *gasp* at the idea of someone who sounds like they have mucus stuck in her throat playing two of the most vocally challenging roles for leading young women today. And, yes, I loved Bombay Dreams and saw Tamyra on New Years eve I believe the night before closing. I just wasnt blown away at all.

And frankly, Kelly is overhyped, IMO. And, I don't call having a couple of "hit" songs huge, either.

I'm saying that the producers should scout for talent, period. The announcement of Diana as Brooklyn and Penny made me *gasp* at the idea of someone who sounds like they have mucus stuck in her throat playing two of the most vocally challenging roles for leading young women today.

As I said before, the definition of "talent" is ENTIRELY an opinion. Apparently Diana can sing the roles, otherwise she wouldn't have been cast in the shows.

I love Kelly to pieces and think she has the talent to be on Broadway (and she has mentioned being interested in doing it at some point in her career), but I don't think now is the right time. With the way her latest album is selling (I think US sales are close to 5 million at this point) and her singles are massive radio hits right now, I doubt her label would let her take a break from that for a year to do a show. As backwards as it sounds, something like that might have to wait until she's not as in-demand in the pop world.

dancingthrulife04... I do agree that my definition of talent may be diffrent and I do respect everyones opinion. Thats the beauty of the brain, you can have your own views and thoughts. As this thread has already shown, some people think that Kelly is huge, some think she poo poo. In any respect, I didn't mean to bash anybodies personal likes, but wanted to see what type of reaction people had to the casting decisions that have already been made. In my initial post, I did mention that Jennifer and Anika are both women who have been in the competition or have worked closely with the "Idol" family and BOTH are doing very well and have proved they have the chops for musical theatre. I just hope Diana proves me wrong. If she does, I'll be the first to admit it.

When Clay was on the show, I remember the comments were all "he should do Broadway instead of a pop career. He'll never make it as a recording artist." Well, he has, which isn't to say he couldn't also take a stab at Broadway. I thought he'd make a great Mark in RENT. He couldn't be worse than Joey Fantone was.

And lest we forget, Justin Guarini almost made it to Broadway. He wisely jumped ship on Good Vibrations before it barried him for good.

I definitely agree with you there. I do think that Diana can handle the roles, though. Brooklyn might be a bit of a challenge, but she seems to have grown vocally since Idol. We'll just have to wait and see.
