Why are the WRONG "IDOLS" being cast?????

Diana in Hairspray and Brooklyn???? Tamyra in Bombay Dreams???? I don't want to trash the hiring of these so called "stars", but why is it producers are neglecting to actually try to hire the more talented "stars" like Kelly or (and I really don't like him, but can't deny his talent) Clay? I have always thought that Kelly would be great in theatre. I remember seeing her season one and saying if this girl does not win, Broadway needs her. I just think that if shows are going to put "up & coming celebrities" in title roles, try to get people with SOME talent. These girls are just the complete opposite. At least with Jennifer Hudson (Season 3 of A.I)) and Anika Nani Rose (she starred opposite Kelly in From Justin to Kelly), they found some true talent!!!! Opinions?

Uh dont you get it? Kelly has a HUGE recording career as does Clay. why in the hell would they stop to do a broadway show. as much as we all revere broadway, a recording career is a big step up to most recording artists. Tamayra WHOO? Diana WHOO? these 2 examples NEED a gig like broadway cuz lets face it, their recording careers have gone nowhere.

I think Tamyra and Diana are a bit more reasonably priced than Kelly. You won't see Kelly taking over a role on Broadway. She may originate one someday, but not replace.

It's because they are not the wrong idols.

Kelly would be amazing on Broadway. I have always thought that, back in the American Idol days she had the voice for Broadway. She's bound to still have the Broadway voice and the pop voice. She is great.

I really think that there are no wrong Idols that have been cast yet.

Well, Diana DeGarmo is actually talented. I have never been impressed with Tamyra.

I just dont get it. I am starting to think that producers, directors, and audiences alike are deaf AND dumb (well, more so than I already thought)!! I could see not wanting Kelly if you would not want to see any "Idols" on the boards, but it's foolish to exclude the most talented of their fame. To each his own, I guess.

are you saying that they Cast "Tamyra/Diana/Frenchie" just because they were on idol? or because they can sing and they want them for the part?

as i said before.. we dont know if kelly and clay were approached about certain projects. .they may have been.. but do u think they really would do it at the height of their HUGE recording careers? Kellys album is multi platinum.. why would she do a broadway show at this point? i think not.. Tamyra and Diana are getting these gigs cuz producers know that the "BIG" idols are are not gonna accept the job.

I agree with Munk, Diana is talented.
It's been said before in this thread but Kelly and Clay probably don't want to do a show. BTW, what role would you suggest for Clay?

Tamyra was AMAZING in Bombay Dreams...and how can you say she is not talented??? and by the way...whoever saw the original Priya, you know Tamyra was far more talented than Anisha Naragayan, who was the only original Broadway cast member who got bad reviews. Anyhow...Kelly Clarkson and Clay are doing too well with their recording careers. Kelly is into rock n roll...im sure she has no desire to be doing theatre, and...thank god!

I think it would be a smart move for Kelly to do a Broadway show. She would prove to everyone that she is well rounded and one of the only recording stars that can sing just as well as she sounds on the radio. I must be missing something. Last time I checked Deborah Cox and Toni Braxton are HUGE recording stars. I don't think Kelly is even remotely at there level. And someone should have reminded Glenn Close and Hugh Jackman that they are big movie stars, because they both I guess were being unreal saying yes to doing a Broadway show. The list goes on and on. In my personal opinion, if producers are going to bask on AMERICAN IDOL fame, either make sure the people are talented enough to perform up to the standards of at least any ensemble member of any given show. I'm not saying that I wont give them a shot. I saw Tamyra in Bombay Dreams and thought she was cute, I just don't want to see cute when I go to see a show on Broadway. I wanted Jennifer to win Idol the year she competed, and hope she can prove herself performing with the likes of Beyonce and Anika. I just didn't picture these girls doing Broadway when I saw them on TV.

That's not why I said what I did. I don't think Kelly would do well on Broadway, and I'd rather not see her try. IMO, she's not that great of a singer to begin with.

Deborah cox? HUGE recording artist?? thats laughable. i like her alot but thats just false. name her last hit. I dare u. and Toni? HUGE CELEBRITY not recording artist. she had her day but lets face it she aint sellin records anymore. please. where are there HUGE selling albums? Kelly on the other hand blows them away are far as the HUGE quotient is concerned.

Sorry! To clarify, I mean because of their Idol fame. I'm not saying these girls are completely talentless, just in my opinion I dont think they're the best.

Diana may be talented (althought what I've heard of her I didn't really like...)but how does she fit 'Penny' at all?

well...i have to give it to you...at least you actually saw Tamyra...becuz most people just talk about Tamyra and Bombay Dreams and they have never seen it!

Tamyra had many songs that were "a capella" everytime she entered the stage and sang...it was pretty much just her voice. And she sounded amazing. The rumor is that they really wanted Janet Jackson to boost the ticket sales of the show. Janet asked for too much money and they were able to hire Tamyra Gray, who didn't really increase the sales...but was actually very talented, her singing was amazing, her acting was decent and her dancing was very good, and she can pass for someone from South Asia.

lovinlife, you are making no sense. You're speaking as if producers sit around and say "Well, let's NOT offer Kelly Clarkson the part...she can't sing." I'm sure her name has been bounced around all over the place - she has the voice for it - but really, she's at the top of her game right now. Broadway just isn't a logical next step for her.

That would be like saying "Why is Christina Applegate in SWEET CHARITY? Why don't they just get Gwen Stefani?"

In defense of Deborah Cox, her last radio hit was Easy As Life and her current # 1 Billboard hit is House Is Not A Home. And Toni is more a celebrity? I don't know what else she's done besides from a few TV appearances, I know her as a singer. Also, she just released her fifth album. Kelly might be doing well right now (and I'm a member of her fan club), but I doubt someone that had to win a TV show contest will have the staying power of the other two ladies.

HUGE deborah C hit? easy as life? since when did the DANCE chart count at all. lets face it.. its all about TOP 100 for singles. u know that. certainly not the dance chart.
