And pose for all those photos with not only Bono and the Edge, but the guy who took her job, Phillip McKinley.

Isn't she suing the production?

Didn't she release a statement? It was her vision from the beginning.

Maybe they want to close the show for another month so she can make some more improvements.
who knows for sure. Ella Logan went to the opening of "Kelly" after she was fired.
That's "show biz", folks!
She put in years of work on the show, and has personal relationships with many of the cast and creative team. She never got to have her "moment in the sun," so to speak, so I guess she sucked it up and went.

And technically, she and the union she belongs to are in arbitration with the producers, which is different from a lawsuit.

She went to the production because so much of it is her original work. As I think she should have.

Despite the fact that she was fired from the production, her masks, original co-librettist book work and much of her ideas and concepts about this production are still in use. So it is right for her to attend.

I am in no way defending her. Trust me. It is good though for her to be there since a lot of it is her work. It is MAJORLY AWKWARD though considering she is currently trying to sue the producers for not paying her. So that was a little weird for me when I heard she was attending.

She got up on stage though and everything and that gotta be embarrassing after everything that went down so I give her major props in some aspects

She wanted to answer the musical question, "Whatever happened to class?"
I'll answer with a question: why not?
Because she knew that if she didn't, she'd be the subject of countless posts here and elsewhere that she is an angry bitch who felt she was too good to show up. Sorry, she disappointed so many of you by not giving you that opportunity, although I'm sure you'll still say the same thing. Personally I think it was good of her to put aside differences and show up at a performance that was a big and important part of her life as well as others. Kind of like being "big" enough to go to a daughter's wedding rather than stay away if that "bitch my ex married" is going to be there.
Because as Bono said: "She's Hot!"
Julie Taymor was originally NOT going to attend the premiere of the musical. The reason she did attend was because her close friends in the cast i.e. Reeve, T.V. and others called her personally and asked her to attend. Along with those phone calls, Bono and The Edge also asked her to attend opening night. Her suing the production or whatever is going on backstage has zero relevance to why she was there. She was there to support her friends.
I still think she went because she would have been the subject of even more ridicule if she didn't attend. At least this way she appears gracious. Although, her comment at the curtain call was a bit snarky. Updated On: 6/17/11 at 04:42 PM

Sounds like she was Punk'ed to me.

She's NOT "suing the production."

Actually, an arbitration is NOT different from a lawsuit. It is a different way to resolve a lawsuit (there are different rules in arbitration than if you wnnent to Court). But it is very much part of a lawsuit.

Actually, you are WRONG:

Arbitration IS different from a lawsuit.

Arbitration is not PART of a lawsuit.

Arbitration vs. Litigation - What is the Difference?

Pal Joey, thanks for providing a link to the differences between arbitration and litigation in the courts. As usual, you are ready to provide immediate information to clarify situations. It is a pleasure to respond to one of your posts after a 10 month absence from this Board due to two knee surgeries and my accompanying depression.
They fired her so quickly she neglected to get a show magnet for her fridge so she had to go back.
She went to the show for the same reason that Molly Ringwald's character went to the prom in Pretty In Pink. To show everyone that she was not broken.

I'm still not a fan of the show, but it takes alot of guts to show up after all the negativity. Props to her indeed.

CATS, what comments?

Good for her. As has been said, so much of the show is still her work--why shouldn't she? She's NOT "suing" the production, and despite how much some aspects of her personality annoy me, she deserves as much praise as the musical might get.

What were the snarky comments?

When I first heard she'd gone, I thought it was utterly inappropriate. On a minute's reflection, though, I didn't and don't think so. She created that show & ran the whole sha-bang for years.

Now, if the question is whether she SHOULD have done it, my answer would be that I think it would have been better for everyone if she hadn't. Would a jilted fiancee show up at her ex's wedding a few months later? One would hope not, even if they claim to be "still good friends" or some such nonsense.

I think she should have been there, and I am glad she went. A lot of her visual work for the show is still intact, and that is reason enough to go. The creative team almost always attends opening night, and she definitely contributed to the creative aspects of the production. Also, she worked with the cast for a long period of time during rehearsals and the early previews. A lot of the cast members even said in interviews that they wanted her to attend opening night. I am glad she went and seeing those pictures of her onstage at curtain call makes me happy. Say what you will, but she did devote a great deal of time, energy, and creative ideas to this project. Yes some of it failed miserably, but some of it also worked quite well.
