But the story sucks.

And the lyrics are trite, nor do they develop the plot or characters.

Plenty of shows with good scores get bad reviews - the reviews are based on WAY more than the music.

The show got bad reviews because it was a classic case of talented people in a horrendous show. I agree with Plum about the score too. Aside from the plot being awful there is something seriously lacking in the music. It's one thing to have a powerful number or two but the attempt to blast out your ears in every song just isn't any good.

So the answer to: Why did brooklyn get bad reviews?!?!?
Because it's a bad show.
And hang on, when did you win the discus?

Why does any good show get bad reviews? Critics are morons & untalented hacks who, because they cannot create, need to destroy

I think some of the songs are a bit cheesy, but overall the show in a nut shell is pretty damn good. I would definately see it again, and again. I think the cast is what makes it so good, they all have terrific voices, especially Ramona and Eden....

By asking this, you clearly haven't subjected yourself to sitting through nearly two hours of non stop screaming used to "tell" a ridiculous story.

The plot was cliche and often had large gaps in the story line. The song lyrics were also very generic. A lot of reviews, although they bashed the show, praised the cast. Obviously Eden, Ramona, Kevin, Cleavant, and Karen have a lot of talent. They just have very little to work with here.

How many Brooklyn threads must we have.
The cast of Brooklyn are talented but the show was one of the worst shows I have ever seen.
The reviewers were very kind.

The music isn't out yet... i think it's coming out around Xmas.
What's the point of making a CD with 2 good songs on it??

That's a bull**** question and you know it. When was the last time the composers of Brooklyn did 1000+ pages of heavy reading a week while writing essays, studying set design, and holding down a job? I'm not a composer, but I'm not lazy, hon.

I call them lazy not in the strict sense of working hours, but in the sense of not being able to think past cliche. When the lyrics I hear for a Broadway show are actually more banal than the worst Disney concoctions, I know something's wrong. When they can't even come up with a book that makes sense- I don't mean a complicated, "meaningful" book, just a coherent one- something is wrong. This is Broadway, supposedly the height of musical theater. I expect more.
