Why is nobody talking about the Jersey Boys Movie? — Page 2

How about the fact that they gave this movie a rated R, which is absurd!

If you say the f-word twice in a movie, it is rated R. You're allowed one for PG-13.

I think it might have something to do with the fact that there's bigger movies coming out soon as well (Edge of Tomorrow, 22 Jump Street, How to Train Your Dragon 2, Transformers 4, etc.)

Jersey Boys isn't a tentpole movie like the ones Jeffrey just listed, it is counter-programming, so it is going to get lost in the noise. Whereas Into the Woods is hoping to be a tentpole so they are promoting it. This movie is for people who want to see a movie, and check the listings to see if anything's playing that isn't based on a comic book, a Japanese monster, an old TV show, or a relaunch of one of the previous listed things.

Eastwood is more in the Woody Allen mode of filmmaking, make them cheaply and you'll always make your money back and, every so often, one hits and becomes bigger. Either way, you get to keep making movies. It doesn't have the $100+ million overhead of all the other movies.

It is also opening nationwide on a weekend without too much major competition (one other movie with Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson) as far as new movies. So, it will either modestly make its money back or become a hit, both successes for Eastwood.

As for the sentiment on here, there are a lot of Broadway shows doing well that wouldn't if we used BWW sentiment as a reliable gauge of success.

Jukebox musicals are fun to watch on stage due to the live element. However, they lose their specialness when brought to screen especially in this age of GLEE. Granted, the music to Jersey Boys is related to the plot, it becomes no different than movies like Walk The Line or Ray, biopics with music.

No one interested in this movie is under 17.

Eastwood is the only thing keeping my interest in the film. I hate the show, but will give the film a shot

Don't patronize me, alright? I'm just saying that the MPAA are full of crap, and they need to reevaluate on how they rate these movies.

Are they using the real Frankie Valee's voice or not?

While I can't vouch for the Jersey Boys movie in particular, not knowing much about the show or the movie, I do agree about there being some silly imbalances in the MPAA rating guidelines. There are R-rated movies that are just as tame as other PG-13 movies (or tamer) except for a few f-bombs. Of course it's often about demographics and all. The RENT movie got a PG-13 with at least two f-bombs because that movie's fan base includes a lot of under 17 people, but here it doesn't matter as much because the intended audience is older people. Plus there are evidently more than just two or three. I think the OP was taking issue with the entire system, not just this one instance.

And as the OP says, there really hasn't been much talk about it. It's a pretty successful musical, so you would think its movie would be getting more buzz. Maybe it's because the people who are probably going to see it aren't the type who post fanatically on the internet, or the theater super-fans who post here in particular. People are going to see an advertisement on TV, go see it when it comes out and that'll be that. It's not like INTO THE WOODS where there are multiple changes, casting and various other things to speculate and discuss. It looks like a pretty straightforward adaptation.

Do the people who post here ALWAYS have to be so snarky and rude?
