Posted: 6/1/14 at 2:57pmI don't think Eastwood's politics have anything to do with this. It's just a movie based on something that's been running forever, with no huge stars, with very little promotion.

Actually, I don't think there is really anything to talk about--just yet.
We here all know the movie is made and coming out soon, nobody of real interest is in it, has well know songs that they can't really fcuk up [like Nine] and a director who hasn't done a musical before, so it's a matter of 'wait and see'---then we can discuss and praise or rip it to shreads-that's probably why nobody is talking about the Jersey Boy movie-just yet.

As someone who is a long-time theater patron, as well as being an even-longer-time fan of The Four Seasons, I am anxiously awaiting this film's premiere. As others on this board have noted, because Jersey Boys is not a traditional Broadway musical but more a bio-musical with songs originally introduced on commercial top-40 radio stations from back in the day, it does not garner the enthusiastic following of most posters on this board. So the limited exposure on this forum for either the show or the resulting film version is to be expected.
And regarding the subject of director Eastwood's politics, I don't see it having any bearing on the musical or the success of the film. Both Jersey Boys and The Four Seasons are as non-political as can be, although I do recall reading somewhere that the group had performed at one of the Democratic Conventions in years past.

Posted: 6/1/14 at 6:47pmEastwood made a joke of him self a few years ago. It certainly made me think of him differently and he hasn't had a big hit movie for some time. I've seen the TV commercials but not a thing on any of the "Entertainment" type shows. This movie is coming in "under the radar". If you don't think Eastwood's politics and off-center doings are not affecting the way Hollywood sees this movie, you better think again. If he has made a great movie that could change things up but I don't think that will happen. And JLY in close-up doing that (looks like I'm constipated when I sing thing)on the big screen ain't gonna help.

After rushing to my cineplex a few Xmas mornings ago, to see the film version of Nine, my all time favorite musical, I've given up hope in film directors --regardless of how talented they might be-- of ever capturing the magic of the original version. I will see Jersey Boys on its opening days. I just will enter the multiplex with very low expectations.
That movie totally ruined my expectations for new movie musicals as well. I was so, so, so excited, then I got that atrocity! I don't think that it can't be done (it's been done ver successfully in the past), but I do have very low confidence in modern filmmakers. There just isn't anyone who knows how to make them work.
As for Jersey Boys, it really does't fit with the normal parameters of a musical. It's not like he's making a movie out of HELLO, DOLLY! or CATS. I think it seems like a pretty decent fit, and that he should probably do a great job.

Gran Torino was a hit in 2008. He only seems to direct a movie every four years on average. He doesn't do the one-a-year plan like Woody Allen.

Posted: 6/1/14 at 7:45pmI know absolutely nothing about Mr Eastwoods politics and like Mr Allen or Mr Polanski, whatever their thoughts or private life entails [or whether they are vegetarians scientologists or heterosexuals]--I will see a movie [don't even care who is in it] as long as the subject matter appeals.

For those interested, it looks like the first public screening of "Jersey Boys" ahead of the official premiere next Monday will be in Toronto tomorrow, so people should be posting opinions online after that.
The press tour also starts in Toronto with appearances by the cast on "Breakfast Television", and "Marilyn" on Wednesday for those with access to Canadian TV.

When any public figure makes their private feelings known, I will indeed hold it against them. It has to be pretty extreme to me to feel the need to take any action: Mel Gibson and his mysogistic, anti-semetic views.
When I find someone to be despicable, there is no way I will contribute to their income. This goes far beyond vegetarianism, sexuality OR religion.

Eastwood's directed 20 movies since 1990 including Jersey Boys in 2014. That's 20 in 24-ish years... Not too far off from Woody.

Clint presenting and talking about, several commercials, what else should they have done?
The trailer is also showing before the new Tom Cruise movie.

Posted: 6/9/14 at 1:23pmThey know it's going to cater mainly to the older set, as counter-programming to the action flicks, so they're not going to do a hard sell. It would be a waste of money, especially with no stars in it. It's Warner's "prestige project."

Posted: 6/9/14 at 3:09pmI could care less one way or the other about his politics, but I know I will probably not be seeing it because I think Clint is one of the most boring filmmakers of the last 50 years. No matter the subject, one can be assured that the end result will be overlong, overrated and overwrought. I thought Unforgiven was pretty darn overrated (especially considering that McCabe and Mrs. Miller had perfected the "revisionist elegiac" western several decades earlier). The Bridges of Madison County had a great opening half before coming to a complete standstill. And do not even get me started on his takes on Absolute Power (a total bore from a fast-paced book) and Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (indefensible on every level). I remember reading a critic's snarky view on his film making prowess that perfectly sums it up. They declared that his next feature would be a three-hour epic of an elderly man stationed at the front door of a house debating internally about whether he would open the screen door and exit or turn around and head back into the kitchen...the pulse-pounding climax is reached when he returns to the kitchen without opening the screen door.

It seems that the best answer to the OP's original question is simply that most people don't really care about this movie. It simply isn't something people want to talk about. Sure, I will eventually see it, but not before it is in the Red Box.
Usually if you want to know why nobody is talking about ______, it is because nobody is interested in _____. If you wish to find someone who does want to talk about any subject, start a conversation that is actually about that subject, and not a conversation about why nobody wants to talk about it.
