Why was A Chorus Line even nominated??

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely ADORE this production and this cast. I love them.
However, it's the exact same production it was years ago, no? Why are people thinking this will win? Company completely reinvented the show and took a different and fresh spin on things. A true revival in my opinion. I don't know much about the original production of 110 in the Shade but it seems the one on Broadway now is different than the original.
Am I missing something? Can someone please explain it?

But the original production already won a Tony.

Totally effed,
I completely agree with you. It's a great piece, but it should be hanging in a museum

Posted: 6/3/07 at 3:37pmAs Becoz said, it is A Chorus Line we're talking about, I don't think it would have been snubbed regardless if it's the same production it was in 75'..Chorus Line was gone for 16 years, where as Les Miserables was gone(what three years?), Les Miz came back way too soon so they just snubbed it..

Posted: 6/3/07 at 3:50pmBecause the nomination commitee is shamelessly double-standarded hypocritic.

Well. it was either this or Les Miserables.
Both were almost identical to the original, but I'd pick A Chorus Line simply because it's the better show. Plus it has been away longer than Les Mis.

I am usually in favor of some re-imaginimg with a revival but in this case, they got it right. It is not the exact same show that ran before because it has a fresh new cast.
Of the revivals this year I think this is the most successful.
COMPANY may be the most inventive and 110 IN THE SHADE the most heartfelt and THE APPLE TREE (well that just sucked).
But I would vote for A CHORUS LINE in this category.

I knwo things aren't perfect about the revival but it's a brilliant production largely brilliantly restaged (plus it has some new orchestrations
)
However i doubt it will win--I see it largely as a filler too--which is fine.

Posted: 6/3/07 at 6:49pmWell, I'm not sure if you are refering to just the Show as a whole, but the performances are the actors own, so their nominations are just......at least in the arguement of the show being the "same" as it was when it left Broadway in 1990.
#18re: Why was A Chorus Line even nominated??
Posted: 6/3/07 at 7:17pmBecause it's the best revival on Broadway?

I don't want to sound close-minded about all of this, but I have no problem with Les Miserables and A Chorus Line being the same show as it was when it first opened. I think A Chorus Line is just fine as it is, and I think Les Miserables is just fine as it is. I don't like A Chorus Line all that much, but I understand why it was nominated and Les Miserables was not.
I certainly don't think that it's the best revival on Broadway, but it is a revival that wasn't based on something from 3 years ago.

honestly i really dont have a problem with it being nominated. the category is for best revival of the season and it is a revival this season. im just not sure its the best. but i have not seen them all...

Posted: 6/6/07 at 4:11pmI loved A Chorus Line and think it deserves its nod. That cast is amazing and it would be hard for any of them to live up to the original and all of the expectations, but they bust their butts every night in a solid production and deserve the honor. The cast recording is not a good representation of the show itself. The show is 100 times better.
