I watched SHREK: THE MUSICAL on Netflix this morning, and all day I have been wondering why Daniel Breaker wasn't nominated for a Tony for his portrayal of Donkey. I found his performance to be one of the highlights of the show, and he was very comedic, not to mention a great singer. I enjoyed his performance much more than Christopher Sieber, who was nominated. I think that he should have at least received a nomination.
For the same reason everyone who's ever been brought up when asking why they weren't nominated for a Tony wasn't nominated or a Tony - other people were nomined instead.
I agree with you GB. His performance was a pleasant surprise. Certainly deserving of a nomination. -though the show was dreadful. I liked the music but haven't been able to sit through the whole show yet. my autistic daughter has watched the movie dozens of times and when I am in the room I still enjoy it. The wonderful line readings. instantly classic quotes, "Not the gum drop buttons!" "I'm a donkey on edge." I don't understand how I am not entertained at all by the book of the musical. but, yes, Daniel Breaker was a highlight.

Daniel Breaker is amazing in everything I've seen him in. He truly commits to his roles.
Because his parents like the name Daniel better.
Oh, sorry. I thought you were asking why wasn't Daniel Breaker named Tony?

JohnLass - the size of the role has nothing to do with a nomination. It is the talent of he actor himself.
"the size of the role has nothing to do with a nomination. It is the talent of he actor himself."
but the way the character is written plays an almost equal part as the actor's talent.
It doesn't measure an actor's talent. A nomination awards the end result.
You can NEVER know why someone is or isn't nominated. You'd have to poll all of the nominating voters and then trutst that they actually remember why. (I also suspect people would be able to give you a more specific reason about why they DID vote for someone vs why they didn't. I mean, why didn't you order the pancakes? Because you wanted eggs.) As someone else said: five other people got more votes. THAT'S the reason.
Daniel Breaker wasn't nominated for one simple yet glaringly obvious reason: his impression of Sandra from 227 did not translate in a donkey costume.
