Thank you queen muppet... but now I must disagree with you... I am the farthest thing from a hyperventalating teeanger.

But regarding Megan... this is the same way I felt the first time I saw Jenn as Glinda, I wasn't a fan at all... and now she's one of my favorite performers. Meg has now been on like 7 times.... not including the week Jenn was out... so I'm hoping people appreciate her as a different person, not just Jenn's replacement, by now.

We're gonna go through the same thing with Shoshana, you can't help it

the shoshana backlash scares me a little. luckily, she's already been on as elphaba, so that the fans know what to expect.

To Broadwayguy2, in this thread, it is unfortunately, YOU who came off looking immature. ElphieDefiesGravity handled your repeated (3x) at pushing the issue very very well.

luvwicked, I wasn't refering to every Wicked poster on here but you know the ones I mean, right? re: Wicked 12/28

I, for one, was very much looking forward to seeing Megan as Glinda but unfortunately have to agree with other people. Her comic timing was just not quite right and she 'lost' quite a few good laughs. I understand that she is new to the role and I'm sure she'll 'get the hang of it' in the future re: Wicked 12/28

January is gonna be murder on this board. i can see the fights now. I say someone starts 1 thread and it just keeps going on that thread.
Great review! that sux that person got caught. Why is JLT suddenly absent. Im going tomorrow...does that mean ill be seeing Megan. Im doing an afternoon show so ill have my review up. I like JLT she made my first wicked show great. How was the chemistry btwn Megan and Idina?
anyways, yes great review.

Thanks everyone! Now i feel really special! re: Wicked 12/28

As for the chemistry between Megan and Idina, it was good, but not great. I didn't cry during For Good, which I always do, so maybe that says something? I don't know.
Megan did something funny during Popular. When she was teaching Elphaba how to flip her hair, she started out going slowly, with hands, then progressed to no hands. Then she had Idina going faster and faster. She kept saying "Faster! Faster!" Idina was finally just twitching her shoulders really fast. It looked like she was being electrocuted or something! It was really funny.

As for the bootleg girl, during intermission she was talking to her sister and she was like "I'll just get the bootleg copy from my friend. She can burn me a dvd of it." I was like, oooookkaaaay. If you're gonna talk about something illegal, do it in private! Geez!!

Elphie, great review! Sounds like it was another awesome experience!

As for the people reviewing in January, that will most likely be me - I'm heading up January 23rd, but with a total open mind to Shoshana even though I love Idina (but I have seen it with her, so that does change it a little bit). As for Megan Hilty, Elphie, you seem to have gone in with the right attitude, and formed your own opinion on her, which is absolutely fine! Just curious, have you seen JLT at all, or just KC and then Megan?

I saw Megan perform a little over a week ago and came up with much the same feeling. I didn't go into the experience as a die-hard fan of any one of the actresses prior to seeing the show. No preconceived opinions. In other words, there is no fan obsession here. But having seen all three actresses (Kristin, JLT and Meg) I have to say that I feel Kristin's performance was by far the strongest with JLT following a nose stronger than Meg -- who will only continue to grow in the role the more she performs.
It was just that some of my favorite lines, usually garnering big laughs, were glossed over a little by Meg. She didn't find the comedic delivery. I also recognize that she's doing wonderfully for the number of performances she's given. My sister, who I took to the show that day, thought she was amazing - and this was her first time seeing the show. So, in essence, the girl gets the job done nicely - and I think she'll find her stride, but I can't help but compare because- as we've already said here- it's only natural to draw on past experiences to process new information.

Just some of my thoughts:

Idina has coughed and cleared her throat a lot the last two times I saw her in Wicked. As a vocal major, its probably a sign that shes not doing something properly, and in return, her chords are trying to protect themselves by making more mucous. Just my opinion--and the gasping, wont help that either.

Haven't seen Megan, but that whole "Faster Faster" toss toss thing i believe JLT started that one--she said that line the last time I saw it in November. She and Idina were cracking themselves up over it.

I've seen 3 Glindas, Kristin, Laura Bell Bundy (who was just awful) and JLT. And Jennifer seems to be my stand out favorite. I was hoping to see the show again with Idina this week, but it looks like my chances for winning the lottery may be slim. Oh well, I look forward to seeing Shoshana. :)

check your personality- I never saw JLT, only Kristin and now Megan.

As for the clearing throat/coughing thing, Idina really only did that before/during Defying Gravity, which she usually does, I think.

I saw the show on 12/27, and I completely agree about Hilty. She added lots of deep feeling in "For Good," and hit the opening song beautifully, but it just felt like she wasn't inhabiting the character. Of course, who can blame her... without the daily repetition, an understudy is always at a disadvantage. But still, it felt like she was working hard to hit her marks perfectly, but not quite able to run with it. And there wasn't the same chemistry with Idina.

Also, there was a guest conductor that night, and the tempo was really fast in the first act. The cast was struggling to keep up at times, and it felt like they didn't have enough time to catch their breaths.

Idina must be fighting off a cold (or perhaps it was the frigid temperatures?) because her voice cracked during "Defying Gravity," and she was a little raspy. Still, she was wonderful, and I'm so sad I won't be able to see her again in this incredible role. *sigh*

broadwayguy, you confuse me. I could've sworn that before Wicked opened in NY, you had seen it and thought it should be on everyone's "don't miss list." And is it me or did you actually enjoy both Idina and Kristin?

Not necessarily. The cold weather can really be a pain on the vocal chords, and she could have a lot of phlegm just because it's there, not because she's doing anything wrong. It all depends on who you are, some people's chords work differently than others. Updated On: 12/29/04 at 01:51 PM

Hey everyone.Yeah I am BRAND new to this site.My names Sam.You're SOO lucky you've gotten to meet Idina.I saw the show once on Dec.19th (And most likely going again but Idina won't be there re: Wicked 12/28).Has anyone seen Jennifer Laura Thompson play G(a)linda??Megan Hilty was playing when we went.I wanted to see Kristan but she was already out of the cast by then.Megan Hilty needs to work on that part a LOT.She was pretty funny in the Popular scene but she had no emotion in For Good.

Does anyone know why Idina does the gasping thin in "The Wizard and I"?It's not like that in the soundtrack.

Today I decided to review this past year's Tonys, and watching her acceptance speech, I noticed the gasping. Perhaps she always takes big breaths when she's excited or nervous? Some people just breath oddly.

And as far as Idina and her phlegm, I think it's the weather. I'm not even a performer, and for the past 2 months all I've been doing is coughing that stuff up. Gross, yes I know. But true. I think mine is also allergy-related. Perhaps hers is as well.

I am a singer/performer and all that gasping is going to do is ruin her voice and dry her throat out.I mean it's only really like that in "The Wizard and I" and some of "What is this Feeling".Haha maybe we should ask herre: Wicked 12/28.

I think I heard she performed with bronchitis very early on last year, which can lead to minor symptoms of asthma. That could always be part of the problem.
