I saw Wicked yet again last night and had a great time. Stephine was AMAZING as she was the last two times I saw her. She made The Wizard and I seem effortless. Great job with the character development. It really was amazing to see the original Elphaba up on that stage for the third time.
The last time I saw the show Ashford was Glinda and I hated her performance. I was glad that I saw Reinders go on for the role. During the scenes in Shiz she didn't play the character to be a ditsy blonde like Ashford did. She did come off as spoiled and as someone who was expecting to get their way all the time ( as the character is supposed to be) but she did show a huge change between acts one and two. When watching her as Glinda I got a better sense of why she chose to be with the wizard and not with her friend and all that.
There was a very funny moment in the show where Steph and Kate broke character. Right before One Short Day when Elphaba is telling Glinda that she should go to the Emerald City with her they hug. Stephine's hair got caught in what seemed like Kate's hair clip and took a little while for her to get unstuck. They were clearly laughing and broke character. Steph ad libbed her way while laughing into the beginning of One Short Day. She didn't say her cue line which signaled the ensemble to start the song and there was a very short bit of time where the cast was clearly on stage confused and the music was playing and no one was singing. Instead of doing the harmony of the line "one short day in the Emerald City" they just jumped into the song. Kate and Steph got their composer back in the middle of the song and were still laughing during the beginning of it. But, it was fun to watch because it did throw the ensemble a curve ball in terms of when to start the show.
In terms of Lenny playing the Wizard. I loved it. He sort of gave me the vibe of that shady relative that your parents warn you to stay away from. Someone who seems nice but has alterer motives. Really great I loved it.
Miriam Margolyes did a good job with Morrible. I thought that she came off as someone who was very calculating and as someone who knew what she was going to do but was very crafty in the way that she presented them.
I thought that Cristy Candler was great as Nessarose. She really got me to feel for her character. I understood why at points she was mad at Elphaba and why she really loved Boq.
David Burnham was great as Fiyero. Just as the role demands he has the looks to pull it off and also has a great voice. He did a good job of letting you think that the character was just some shallow person to realizing that the character is more.
Overall, as I am sure you know Wicked is a good show but this cast is one that helped me understand the characters in ways I have never been able to do. I think that when Kerry comes over to do Elphaba it might just be the first time I even considered buying the partial view tickets in advanced. Just by what I have seen on youtube she makes this very hard singing and makes it look effortless.

Do you mean Kendra Kassebaum? Kate Reinders hasn't been in the show for awhile...
Great review though. I love seeing bloopers and stuff like that. Stephanie is the best. The entire cast is top-notch. What do you think of Ben Liebert as Boq? You didn't mention him.

Posted: 5/23/08 at 7:38amGood review...... but is this for 5/22? That would mean Kendra was Galinda.
-Jeff Bowen's worst onstage line flub.

Glad you enjoyed and thanks for taking the time to write it all out for us.
Maybe next time sleep on it first or check out your playbill and calendar first for names and date? :) lol

These are all the reasons why I shouldn't post here passed one in the morning.
The scary part was was that my playbill was right in front of me when I made the mistake about the casting. If you change Kate to Kendra everything will make sense now.

Well there was another ex-girlfriend of Sebastian in the show but I don't think I should reveal that... It was someone who did the show with Steph, if you know don't say.

Omg, that sounds great! You've seen Stephanie three times?? I've only seen SJB as Elphie once and didn't know who she was at the time, argh! I think it would be incredible to see her and Kendra together again! Thanks for this!
