Saw Wicked this afternoon. It was ok, I thought it was funny. The score was just ok for me. The scenery was my favorite - loved the colors.
However, my main reason for going was to see Rue M. AND she was out!! They were orch seats. I was so upset. Is she sick? She doesn't do mats? I really went just for her. Maybe I could persuade another friend to go to an evening performance. I got lucky, I had bought the tickets two days ago.
Ben Vereen was absolutely amazing. I thought he played the role very well. But no Rue Though I can see her in that role. And she only sings one line? The rest just talks them through.
I hope I can catch her another time soon.

Rue is contracted to do eight shows a week. I've heard from a friend that she's been out a few times recently.
How were Shoshana and Megan?
What'd you think of the show's book ("script")?

Re: Rue- You had a lucky escape. Her performance is excruciatingly painful to watch and listen to. Not having got the Golden Girls to any great extent over here, I asked the morbidly obese texans next to me if she spoke in such a bizarre accent normally/on tv, and apparently she doesnt. She actually makes the effort to put on such a weird and painful-to-listen-to accent.
Bizarre.

I was at both shows yesterday and Adinah Alexander was on for both. I have to say I was happy to see her again at the evening show - I caught Rue last week and while I loved her Morrible, of the three I've seen so far Adinah's is far and away my favourite :) She's really fantastic!
Adinah was on for the 9/20 performance (the one where Shoshana fell.) I thought she was very impressive as Morrible and was glad I didn't have to see Rue.
I'm keeping fingers crossed that Adinah will be on next Tues when I see the show for the last time, lol.
i think rue is trying to just do a rather regal british accent(think carole speaking normally) but being a very southern woman it comes off as bizarre. I must say rue's "wiiiiiicked witch" speech is the weakest i've heard (in order i rank them carole, rondi, carol, rue... i've yet to hear adinah's) since she sounds like its no big thing.
How come Jan Neuberger never goes on? She is much better than Adinah

Regal British accent? You've got to be kidding me!
If thats what shes trying to achieve, then she is failing miserably.

I saw wicked 3 times earlier in august. the first time it was jan as morrible the second time rue did the first act (which was horrendous - speaking to Alex Laccamoire, apparently she had surgery on her larynx) Adinah came on for the secon act, she was pretty good. Then Jan was on again the second time. The good thing about jan is that she SINGS it. She was a very good actress too. I agree about the regal Anglicisms

Aww. Get better, Rue.
The NY Times didn't like Shoshana nor Megan. But they loved Rue.
So not everyone hates her.
Oh Soshana & Megan were very poised, just gret singers. They drew many laughs and applause.
So Rue is sick? You know, I was thinking of going to the box office where I purchased the tickets to say since Rue wasn't in it can I refund the ticket for another performance? But felt too embarrassed! I mean, who does that? So I guess I will have to pay another $100 to go. Many say she's bad, many say she's good, it's something I have to see for myself. It's not a demanding role for her. She just has to make costume & make-up changes. But then again, I understand Rue is 71, so she has paid her dues I guess. But still love her!

Why on god's green earth (green, get it?) would they hire somebody named Adinah for Wicked?

I have to agree, Adinah is fabulous as Madame Morrible! I saw her twice in the role last September. I'm sure she has improved much since then.
Carole is my all time favorite. Rue only has one good line in the show and it's only funny because of the way Megan plays off of it. I could do without Rue.

Adinah is great.
And if it means anything, Namo, Adinah was there from the beginning.
it always amused me that two of the swings are Kristen and Adinah, rotfl.
