cool! if they just tape the show (or use the one already taped) and turn it into a movie I'd be a happy camper!

While that would be nice, fewer people will spend $100 on a ticket to the musical when they could see it on tape at the theatre for $7. Not a good marketing stratagy.
Found my quote...
"They wanna do a Wicked movie, and I’m attached to it. But you know, we’ll wait and see what they decide. There’s lots of directors interested in filming it. The good news is they have to use me whether they want to or not. They can’t bring in Reese Witherspoon and have me sing her voice." ~Kristin Chenoweth

Well, that's good. Is Idina attached? And is it going to be a musical?
Emutional before you found the quote I was going to back you up. Kristin told a group of us personally that she was locked in for the role of Glinda...that deal hsa been made. I don't know about Idina. They'd be foolish to not try to have her do it...

I would think they would keep both Kristin and Idina for the movie, and then get more famous people to play the supporting roles. Thats just my guess.
Usually before a studio will commit to casting an "unknown" which outside of the theatre world, Idina & Kristin are unknowns, they would like them to be seen on screen at least in supporting roles so the public can at least have some idea of who they are, even if they can't remember their name. This is true with PHANTOM, also. Emmy Rossum was just seen as Sean Penn's daughter in MYSTIC RIVER and as
<--------------------'s girlfriend in THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW. Most people will not remember her name right now, but her involvement with those films is enough along with Webber's name and the name PHANTOM to bring some people in.
Now that Kristin is involved with several HUGE pictures coming up and Idina will be soon be seen on the big screen the chances for both of them being cast increases not to mention the sheer number of CD's the cast recording has sold. However the supporting roles will require real box office names. Don't think that Carole Shelley & Butz will reprise them for the screen. But there are so many musicals being kicked around right now as possibilities for production and WICKED is one of the most popular musicals in a very long time, so a big screen version might not be as far off as some people think.
I second J.'s thought. Maybe its just that time of the month..all the time for her.
If filmed, Wicked has many things that pushed it ahead.
One: Its the biggest musical of the year, and audiences LOVE it
Two: One of its major producers is Universal Studios (as previously posted)
Three: Kristin and Idina have both said that they are tied to it (plus Idina won a Tony for her portrayl of Elphaba), and for some people, the only reason they go to Wicked is to see Cheno and Idina.
So therefore, IF IT ever be made into a movie (Lord, hear my prayer) it will be a musical.

i agree! i really hope that it occurs. wickedrocks, everytime i look at your icon i crack up! gotta love the cheno!
If a film version gets made, the fact Idina Menzel won a Tony for the show won't make a bit of difference in whether or not she is cast. That's just the way it is.

Bebe Neworth won a Tony for Chicago, but they wouldnt let her do the movie.
As much as I love her, if Bebe Neuwirth had been in the film CHICAGO, the movie would probably be in the $4.99 and under bin at the movie store already.

I think Chicago still would have done well if Bebe was in it. People know her from Cheers, plus Renee Zellwigger and Richard Gere would of brought people to see the movie. Updated On: 7/16/04 at 12:43 AM
Yeah it may have worked but as much as people may recognize her, it's the name that's on the poster that people have to know.

Sorry Musetta. I corrected it. It's late and I wasn't thinking. Updated On: 7/16/04 at 01:20 AM
