I know this was asked before, but is Wicked going to be filmed or not? I heard yes, then no, then yes. LOL. So as would be assumed, I have no idea if it is or not. I hope so.
I also heard HBO is filming Caroline Or Change. True?
I know that plans are underway to turn Wicked into a Hollywood movie musical a la Phantom and Chicago.

Isn't Universal Pictures one of the main investors in the show?
There were plans to turn Wicked into an ABC mini-series, but I have heard nothing about a feature film. Caroline, Or Change may be filmed at one point for HBO, but nothing is set yet. There are a few parts that have been filmed for the mini-show "The Buzz".
NOOOOOOOOOO! NOT A MINI-SERIES! THAT WOULD SUCK! IF ANYONE AT UNIVERSAL HEARS ME, MAKE IT A MOVIE! YOU WILL MAKE BILLIONS AND TRILLIONS!!!

If HBO films Caroline, or Change, will it be like Jekyll and Hyde and Smokey Joe's Cafe?
Jekyll and Smokey were filmed by a totally different company than HBO. HBO just happens to be the network that it's shown on.
Ok kids, let's not start anymore rumors. There is no definite plan to film Wicked yet. It's a possibility for the future, possibly after the tour but, NOTHING has been decided yet. No filming, no casting, NADA.
I don't think that we will see a Wicked film for a good long while.

how do you guys even know this stuff? chicago and phantom have been out for YEARS. I really doubt that people are considering making this into a movie just yet. I'm sure it has been thrown around, like hey maybe this would work, but I doubt its a serious project.

I'm sure someone somewhere has bought development rights, considering the flurry of movie musicals in development at the moment. But don't get too hasty -- remember what happened to FOLLIES in development. They were going to ditch two thirds of the score and replace the songs with recreations of MGM movie moments from the 1930s and 40s.
WiCkEDrOcKS, did you read the part where GovernorSlaton used the word "were"?
Calm down.
Musetta, can you ever have anything nice or friendly to say???

Wicked was probably filmed for Lincoln Center, but no one is going to be able to see it until the show closes which wont be for a while.

Not true, Kristin has stated many times that if Wicked ever makes a movie, she's tied into it no matter what. 100% fact.

Will the movie be based on the book or the musical, and will there be singing? I'd like to see what they do with it on film, honestly. I think it would translate better to a miniseries, though, if based on the book. The book's too long and complicated to cram into two hours.
That would be so cool if WICKED could be filmed!!

Emutional - the bottom line is no film is even being planned so Kristin isn't tied into it at all. Maybe she'd like to do it, but maybe the movie execs have other ideas. For instance Bebe Neuwirth really wanted to be in Chicago. She was very upset that they went for a "bigger" name. So it doesn't really matter what Kristin wants, unless shes footing the bill. I agree that she should have the role, but look at all the Reese Witherspoon comparisons, they could pick someone like her for example. I think since this movie doesn't exist no one is really "tied" into it.
It does exist, because Universal originally bought the rights to wicked but Schwartz and Holzman stopped them and asked them to make it a musical first.
That's why you see all of Wicked's adds at Universal Studios if you go there.
She's definitely locked into it.
"Musetta, can you ever have anything nice or friendly to say???"
At select times, generally after dawn and before dusk on odd-numbered days starting with "T."
No purchase neccessary.
Need not be present to win.
I think Musseta is having problems at home.
I think Wicked would make an amazng animated film. It is said that traditional animation has been suffering from a few years of horrible movies, and I think Wicked would be an amazing project to utilize the medium. Imagine the art direction and character designs...i say Dreamworks should tackle it, they have already had experience with Schwartz (Prince of Egypt) and they have an amazing style.
Just a random thought,

I have an article from earlier this year when lane and Broderick were first cast in "The Producers" film that "Wicked" was in script development. I'll try to find the URL.
