Wicked Confusion…

There’s someone on Twitter who is talking about a Wicked audition. I’m not sure if they’re serious-I’m confused. The West send cast essentially just started, same with the tour cast-I’m aware there are understudies but aren’t there several covers/understudies for the productions already? What’s happening

I'm not sure what British Equity's rules are (as you mentioned the West End), but in the US AEA requires Broadway shows to do auditions every six months. They may also choose to hold appointment calls based on whatever schedule they choose.

As someone said in the UK auditions are help regularly under the guise of casting “for future productions”. Wicked has done this quite a few times previously.

Oh the mention of the West End was just an example of the productions that have full companies right now, with leads having started fairly recently.

Post #2 says it all: equity requires auditions, but they can hold auditions whenever they have the need.


If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
