Only cause I didn't like RENT at all. Well, that was till I got to see practically everyone from the OBC in the film (plus havin' about 8 years on my age helped too). I can now say I am a RENT fan...

But, I LUV Wicked!!!

I never actually saw RENT the show, but i did see Wicked..w/ my mom ::gasp::, which i really did enjoy. But afterwards i didn't go out and buy a "Defying Gravity" t-shirt, or obessively google Idina Menzel, or put random quotes from the show on my info. No, i came out of the show feeling like i had gotten an important message out of it, loved the music, and...sorry to those who look down on the teenagers going with their mothers, felt as though i had gotten closer with her through both our appreciations for the show and it's themes, that we BOTH were able to relate to. With Rent, however, i only saw the movie...and contrary to those who didn't approve (not trying to start another huge war...i'm for peace people ), i thought it was amazing. The music, the characters, the messages, the story, i was engrossed in everything Rent. Usually when i see a good movie or a good show i find myself thinking about and analyzing the different themes and characters for a few days. However, with Rent, it has been 3 weeks (which i know, is not a long time compared to those who have been fans since 1996), and i guess you could say the stage we all go through after seeing a show or movie where we feel compelled to think about it has lasted longer than anything else. I feel as though the themes, relationships, lessons, and overall story has touched me in a way that nothing has before. And yes, i do admit, i got tickets to see the show after i saw the movie. However, i don't think i, as well as anyone else, should be put in the category of "teenager who is going to see the show after the movie and go home and watch bring it on while arguing about Nsync or Backstreet boys." I do understand it's probably a little aggravating spending your whole life loving a show and then seeing some teenagers (who probably don't seem as though they understand the depth and power of Rent...and some of them don't), however, I don't want to feel as though I'm being judged becuase of my age. Rent, in these past few weeks, has effected me so much.Its not hurtful, but upsetting to see that just because I'm a teenager who hasn't seen the show yet, that my extreme love and appreciation for Rent could be meausured by two things that mean so mcuh less than what the movie has brought to my life, as well as many others. I brought my mom and dad to see the movie with me when i went again, and they both LOVED it, two people who have also never seen the show before but are now going to. Who's to say that these adults, and i'm sure that there are many, are any better than the teenagers doing the same thing.

I know no one's on this board to personally attack anyone, and i got a little off topic here, but i just wanted to give the perspective of a teenager who everyone seeems to c ritisize on this board.

Renthead, hands down *hehe, I'm actually wearing my showshirt now, small world, eh?*. However, the reason I actually listened to Rent was through a friend and we both had seen and really liked Wicked. She tells me to buy the double disk CD of Rent and I obligued, even though it was kind of pricy. Best CD I have ever gotten. I've been lucky enough to see the musical twice (once when the touring cast came to NJ and on Broadway) and it's really...touching. I dragged my mom along to se the movie and she liked it. She cries at everything (sad commercials, etc.) but didn't cry at all during Rent. That bothered me a bit...lol. Eh, to each their own. But yes, I would rather hear/see Rent anyday, but Wicked is definately my second choice.

Renthead, I suppose. Neither are my favorite show, but RENT is a bit higher on my list. Wicked was cute and all, but...I don't know. When your friends who think they're obsessed with musical theatre just because they like Wicked start singing "Popular" in Kristen-voice CONSTANTLY, Wicked loses a few points. :)
