Well, we're getting another prequel book:

but clearly with the film's success, we're going to get another one ... do you think it'll be a combo of these new prequels or something that comes next?

They're really milking this cow for every last drop, aren't they? I say leave it alone, but what do I know

Personally I think Wicked is a lightning in a bottle moment. Take away the long running musical, the spin on the original Wizard of Oz, and the cast/characters everyone loves and I dont think people care enough about Oz itself to come back to something with all of that taken away.
This is like Disney with Star Wars, and look how that turned out. Sometimes less is more.

This franchise is going to implode immediately when they try to do literally anything else with it and I don't know why these companies can't see this. Almost every other Oz project in the last 20 years has been a flop. People did not turn out for Oz, they turned out for Wicked and this cast. Take it away and nobody cares.

‘Wicked’ Sequels Being Figured Out at Universal Pictures: ‘Things Are Underway’ to See How ‘We Can Continue in This Universe’

Agree, the success for this property comes from people’s affinity for the musical, the characters in it, and the songs. People didn’t turn out just because they love stories about Oz.
The Star Wars comparison is apt, as Disney has now completely diluted the brand of one of the biggest pop culture franchises of the last century.

I actually won’t mind more movies. As long as the emotional impact of Part 2’s ending isn’t undone. Although I won’t mind seeing Ethan Slater’s Boq again. Or a spin off starring Pfannie and ShenShen. Because those two work so well together in spite of their limited screen time

I can't remember a god damn thing they actually contributed to anything so... no...
And like... if we're already looking to Pfannie and ShenShen for spin offs, we've hit the bottom of the barrel.
If they want to do anything they need to remake return to Oz
Pfannee & ShenShen of Oz! A new series streaming exclusively on Peacock! 🤢
I could see a prequel featuring the Wizard’s arrival from the point of view of Princess Ozma and the coup that followed. Or even further back featuring a member of the Royal Family of Oz. I imagine they’ll want to avoid using any of the familiar characters as it’ll be hard to bring them back.
I’m a huge Oz fan so would love to see more projects set in Oz.
