So tonight I saw the evening performance of Wicked. It was my 5th time seeing the show and my seats were in the last row of the orchestra. They were AMAZING seats and I saw everything.
Idina was in, JLT out and Shoshanna Bean was Nessa.
Idina- love her but she needs a rest. She gasped the whole show, and it was most evident in Wiz and I. However she made up for it with Defying Gravity. She held the notes so long and really gave it her all. I really expected the audience to give her a standing ovation from all the energy they showed. The rest of her performance was great, if you ignore all the gasping. She did cough a few times so perhaps she is sick. Overal, she is amazing and she will be missed.
Meg Hilty - SOOO amazed at her talent. Reminded me of Reese Wihtherspoon. She was so cute and funny, and her comdeic timing was on tonight. Popular was her shining moment of the show, and her ad libs were great. I do love JLT, but I hope to see Meg in this show again.
Shoshanna Bean as Nessarose - Ok this is not the part for her. She has a powerful stage presence and being in the chair seemed to hinder her. Nessa is also a small role and I wanted to hear her sing more. She plays the part pretty bithcy, and I hope that she can soften down for Elphaba.
The show overall was great, a few audio glithces a few times but other then that flawless. At the end Idina blew Shoshanna a kiss and Shoshanna kind of bowed to Idina. And Idina also yelled Happy New Year to the audience. Glad I could see it again before Idina left....Shoshanna better be able to fill her shoes!!

Why does every ****ing review of this show leave out the most talented and accomplished member of the cast?

Posted: 12/31/04 at 12:36amBecause, SticktoPriest, his work in this show is bland and completely forgettable. I loved him in Sweeney Todd, but was utterly disappointed by him in this show (Not that he has much to work with in the first place).

Posted: 12/31/04 at 12:37amtonight was my second time seeing George and to be honest the role is boring and he is boring in it. Joel Grey at least gave it some kind of life. But the role is just bland so its not George's fault.

I don't care if you didn't like him, but I've yet to see him even be mentioned in any of these 'reviews'.

Broadwaygirl- your picture is great =).
Great review. I do hope Idina get's better though because so many people have ticket's for this week (including myself!) because it's her last week and it would be so dissapointing if she missed a show when everyone's going to see it for her before she goes. Ahhh, everyone cross your fingers.
Shoshana as Nessa, I can't picture it either. I do hope she will make a great Elphie too, I think she will.

Well, PJ, what kills me is that many people who see the show rate him as a performer based solely on this one role. And it makes me sad.
All of the people at my school who have seen him in Wicked say he is awful and doesn't deserve to be on the B'way stage.
I hate that ignorance.
How can you judge someone on one performance in a ****ty role?
Oh well, I guess seeing all the Idina-ites ignore him at the stagedoor really got to me.

Posted: 12/31/04 at 12:44amThe thing with Shoshanna....she is kind of a busty and larger girl. So her in that chair just looked weird. And all of the clothes were WAY to tight. She comes off as VERY bithcy even when nessa was suposed to be nice. This worries me for her switch to Elphaba. However, I have heard her sing the role and she is amazing!

Well, Priest, I can tell you that when I'm in NYC and seeing Wicked in February, I will be the one squealing like a fangirl for George.

Man, I am really hoping Idina can rest for her last week.Atleast she has off Friday. I hope she can rest and prepare for her last week.
Well, I can't wait to see the show again on Tuesday. I really hope JLT is back.

How did shoshana and idina act together? any chemistry or so? I would have loved to see them all on stage. Yep heard the gasping, hope she gets better. Thats cute that she blew her a kiss haha. I love megan hilty! Did you stage door?

When I saw the 12/29 matinee, Megan Hilty was great. She has an amazing voice, but she doesnt have the charm and warmth that KC brought to the role.
George Hearn was my favorite out of the other two wizards I saw, Joel Grey and Sean McCourt. He still has his amazing voice that he had back when he did La Cage and Sweeney :)

Joey McIntire....oo Man
well he was actually worse then when I saw him in August. He sounds gruff, and almost if he had something caught in his throat when he talked. But his singing was fine. I am a Taye Diggs as Fieryo fan since I saw him do the part 3 times so anyone else to me is kind of sub-par. But I will be happy to see a NEW Fieryo.
Also someone asked about Idina and Shoshanna chemistry. Well there was none. Shoshanna was just moody up on stage and in their 3 scenes together she kind of seemed to be ignoring Idina and talking to the crowd. Now this could have been her playing the role, or just the way she is. I guess we will know on Jan. 11th

yea that's true, maybe she has a different feel of how nessa is. You said that she blew her a kiss so i don't think that she did that unintentionally. I think Shoshana may just have been playing the role of nessa in her own eyes. Talking to the crowd, that's a little out of character.
How was she with boq?
i cant imagine having to wheel around in that thing, i would want to get up so bad.

Yeah.. I still can't see Shoshana as Nessa. Was Michelle sick? Or on vacation? She's the perfect one for Nessa, though. I still can't see anyone else in the part.
I never liked Joey as Fiyero. I liked Norbert and, or course, Taye. But Norbert was much better than Joey, whom I really don't like at all.

She was cute with Boq. You could tell she was an uderstudy because she had a hard time wheeling the chair around. It looked like a struggle and I understand why. She is just a very comanding person, I saw her in Godspell a few years ago (with Barret Foa ) and she was very powerful which can be good and bad for Elphie but certainly wrong for Nessa.
